While everyone else here is discussing a software fault on the overlay screen (that can be removed by ditching the Voda customisation using Totalserver), it does sound like yours has a dead CCD pixel. Exchange may be the only solution.

Hey, that last one could be a dead pixel... if it turns off when you press the centre of the joystick in during using the camera it's the software display. If it's still there, and there using the rest of the phone's features it'll be your phone.

As for voiding the warranty, using Multiserver - maybe (although the phone is not opened / soldered / tampered with). Frankly though I think its disgusting i've had to do this to solve my problem and Vodafone were of no help whatsoever. All I got from the operators was "Take it into a shop to confirm it's a problem" (well of course its a problem, I can see that) and "Send it back we'll exchange it" (Which would have been no help, already had one exchange and would have had to wait in AGAIN for another faulty phone)

So, it's up to you. You could put up with the problem and then get the firmware flashed at an official service centre, or it's looking likely SE are going to be offering an update service over the web (via the DSS-20, they have for K700 now. Whether or not this will work for Vodafone I don't know...) This means waiting up to two months. Or you could have a 100 exchanges at the expense of Vodafone until they sort the problem.

Thumbs up to them for a good contract otherwise though, its great value! As I say, i'm happy now the phone is working to how it should do.

i too have a vodafone branded s700i and i detest their branding, SE will spend a lot of time and money getting the software right so why do Vodafone think they can do a better job of it…

on my s700i which is on o2 unbranded i have a red pixel, it only shows up in the dark or black brackground, but when i take a picture its gone also its not there when i shut down and get the se black screen???

erm... is it always there when the phone is on or is it only visible in camera mode?
if it's the former case (which i suspect), it might be a dead pixel on the LCD display, go get it exchanged ASAP!

ps. found this thread AFTER silly ol' me went to voda for 2 exchanges

Hey,

I got an s700i and it has that white pixel around the bottom left of the screen when holding horizontally, i've debranded my firmware using multiserver and its still there plus when i press the center its still there, but its not a dead pixel because when i change to video mode it moves closer to the center because the video screen is smaller.

What do you think this is? i've already exchanged it once due to another fault so I hope its just a firmware problem

there are 5 on my monitor (flatscreen)

and i am sorry to say but lcd screens are funny, and can sometimes have a few dead pixels. its life.

like when you buy a k700i the joystick can be slightly to the left. the connection between the power and the lcd screen can sometimes go funny, so never mind!

As i said earlier.... Its not a dead pixel.

I wanted to know whether there was something to do with CCD sensor or just a firmware problem but i have debranded it and it was still there and the last 1 i had didnt have the white dot so i assume it is something to do with the ccd sensor?
