I live in a poor reception area (1 bar with a T68i and very accasionally 2 bar with a T610). I could only get this in specific areas accross my house but mostly i get nothing. Receptions has vastly improved with the K700 and i sometimes get 4 bars

I only know from my experience when I was at Cebit a couple of years ago that I had full bars on my phone but no chance to make a call since the network was very very congested. Sending SMS was the only way of communicating. Thosedays I had the R320 but it certainly did show full bars. Is this a feature in new SEs?

Yes, the SE phones do measure reception in a different way to other phones. It doesnt take "averages", but instead takes "spot samples", which is why it fluctuates more than other phones.
A recent K700 firmware has changed this behaviour (see the changes on another thread). The behaviour now is to drop one bar at a time when signal goes down, but return straight to full when the signals very good. This is actually how Nokia displays their signal bars, as well as use a more average of the signal. This means the Phone's signal status is now more realistic, and doesnt look fluctuating all over the place.
As to whether the reception of the new SE phones is better than previous models, well i certainly FEEL that way with the S700i. On my T610/P800 i would get dropped calls and lousy sound at work, where these is marginal recption. but the S700 is crystal clear always, and callers have even commented that its suddenly very clear...
this nearly caused an issue with my missus, when she called me, and was able to hear me clear, and she thought i was not at work!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if the huge metal ring around the camera lens may also be helping? The reason why i ask this is looking back to the Z200, that phone had VERY good reception, and it was only when people realised it actually used an "external" arial. the big metal strap loop at the top is also an arial. I am wondering if they used the same principle with the K700/S700 by utilising the seamingly cosmetic metal Camera ring as an arial, or booster?
