I personally can't believe how you all can be so crazy about this phone. I have had a P990 since the beginning of august and the phone is plane rubish! NOTHING is working correctly and there are way to many stability issues and software errors. This phone is NOT a keeper and i will return it if there are still (serious) issues with it after the next upgrade!

You're right of course, however I have been waiting to upgrade from my SPV C500 since the P990 was supposed to come out in Aug and seeing everyone else getting it on other threads but not being able to is why I and others here I'm sure, are following when o2 will finally release it and being drip fed release dates is so frustrating... we'll see

Mine is on vodafone with my o2 chip in it and I'm not having any of the problems you suggested.
The main issues I have are:
1) twice now when surfing web it has frozen, battery has to come out
2) memory management is poo, it sometimes says "not enough memory" during typing a sms message when i have nothing else open
3) you need a wifi router that supports WPA2 to use WPA encryption - tough luck if your other wireless devices do not support WPA2
4) backlight sometimes doesn't fade manually, this seems to have gone away when I dared to try using a p-series phon in flipless mode
5) no option to record calls, the k800i has this and even my old Sony Z5 could do this
6) wifi slaughters the battery, without wifi the battery rivals the P910i
7) if you open messaging with the flip closed and don't kill it in task manager, next time you use messaging with the flip open the "delete all" option isn't available as it launched in flip closed mode
dare I say it....I've got to grips with not having a 5-d jog dial!!!!
For anyone who loves the P-series phone, after a couple of days you will not give up your P990i for anything (unless its a dud).
One last thing, O2 sent me a 3G sim and tried to swap my number from the old sim to the new sim 12hrs ago....now neither sim works and customer services are closed.

I spoke to Select today and they said (again) that the launch would be the 24th, then suggested that that would mean the phone would ship "probably next week".

Anyone got any idea how much O2 are thinking of charging for the P990, assuming they ever release it?

RMJ, Thanks..
I don't think we're "crazy about this phone" - I think we're more annoyed at O2's behaviour.
I for one knew this phone wasn't going to be perfect, but I'm hoping that the phone would be better than the O2 XDA Exec. I can tell you now that the phone for sure isn't perfect. I've experienced a lot of annoyances with it, and I do think that SE has taken a step backwards when it comes to useability and responsiveness of the UI.
I still think it's the best one out there (on paper at least, I've still to form my own opinion about its functionality).
And to those of you waiting; Hope you get it soon!!

*fingers-crossed!*

I expect O2 are now waiting for a new firmware release, because it's clear that even the people making an effort to buy this phone don't understand that it has a few problems, and they really don't want to have phone returned just because their average punter probably won't manage a firmware ugrade on their own. (see posting above).

BTW just went into an o2 shop, they still have the p990 on the shelves which makes me wonder about them never selling them to new customers as discussed earlier, surely if they didn't want to sell them to new customers they would have them hidden away? Anyway for a laugh I asked the salesperson if they had any.....he said they where out but they didn't have any stock, probably next week....... I so wanted to laugh....
