Noooo, not again!

This fallacy that Sony alone will conquer the cellphone market is quite silly and should end.

We've been through this before, Sony can't even compete in all other spheres it is involved in.

Sony can't afford to ditch Ericsson and they will not. I have said that should SE make decent profits in the next three quarters then we are likely to see their resurgence.

Let this not be another Sony vs Ericsson because the former will not go it alone as they know they will fail dismally. Right now both are not completely failing but are hanging on for dear life and should they weather the storm and come out unscathed then good things will happen.

Anyway, we're about to find out if they are on the mend next month when the third quarter results are revealed.

Oh god, this thread really does just go around in circles I like to read the comments from time to time, but now its going back to the Ericsson vs Song debate where the fanboys for each come out and fight within SE. The chances they they'll buy each other out are slim, but far more likely that Sony would Ericsson. Like Sony would sell their share to Ericsson effectively letting them use the sony name in Sony Ericsson. Also many would argue that SE rests a lot on the things that Sony bring it to help market the products, in the past this has been walkman and cyber-shot but now is the Exmor-r, Playstation, Bravia etc. and now their 3D technology.

Anyway it's all really pointless speculation, just wait and see what happens!

I think the problem with sony ericsson is pricing!!For example xperia play was sold for 500euros,when it launched in March, and now can be found for 230euros.Dont get me wrong,i believe xperia play is a great device, however had it launched in the right price point(300euros) it would be an instant hit.The problem is that they are using outdated hardware(processor, screen resolution),that simple doesnt justify the price. If they had launched xperia neo/pro/play for 300euros,xperia arc for 400euro,they would actually had more revenue and sales. It is pretty obvious that Sony Ericsson doesnt have the resources to develop cutting-edge products anymore, they simple follow, and that's the reason they cant find sucess in the high-end market, that they seem to have focused. At this point, there are 3 ways to get SE from mediocrity and breaking-even.

1.The Joint Venture stays as it is,and they actually start pricing their products more aggressive.

2.Sony and Ericsson agree to finance and put more effort in the JV,thus giving SE their latest technologies(cameras, processors, screen tecnologies),that justify the price of the products.

3.Sony or Ericsson buys the other's part, starting a whole new company.

Option 3 would be the best solution. Ericsson can still pay to use Sony tech until the time comes that they build something better.
Ericsson had far more advanced prototypes then SE has phones on the market.

Actually i believe the opposite.Sony is more eager to succeed in the mobile phone industry than Ericsson.Sony wants to build an ecosystem of devices(phones, tablets, computers,TVs,game consoles) that support the same services.I wouldn't be suprised if they actually announce a buyout on October 1st or simply the Disband of the Joint Venture. The thing is that, they failed to reach the goal that they set in 2001.So they will either commit in making the JV work or each will go their way.

Well,October 1st is going be a big day, cause a lot of important decisions are going to be made.Sony's and Ericsson's contract for the Joint Venture expires on October 1st,so they are going to either renew their contract for the next 5 years or so,or find a different solution for the JV.Whatever happens,it should be intresting nevertheless.

That website is the online directory of the electronics market in Beijing. I wouldn't necessarily treat their sources as 100% genuine all the time as they do have hoards and hoards of fake products there and I've seen 'catalogues' in person in that market containing pictures of known renders of concepts from this very forum. Attached to each of those concepts being a price and an associated faked product to look like the given concept.

Saying that, those pics on there look fairly conclusive, I don't think it's actually on sale there as I was there two days ago and didn't see it. It could be photos from the new R&D centre they're putting up here or a fresh batch off the line for review purposes.

RE: Joint Venture

I'm certain we would have heard if they were going to wind down in the next couple days. A contract like this cannot be dropped out of over night, they'd have had to have announced it months ago that they weren't renewing or continuing if hey wanted to close up shop on Friday.
