the nokia communicator 9300 is a great device. it's so small, the keyboard so useable, but it has one major flaw: NO TOUCH SCREEN !!!!
if that weren't so, i think i would have gone back to nokia already.
i really like the size and shape ...
i think i would miss UIQ, though.
oh, and all the software i bough
i don't trust the keypad-under-screen image, as well as the "i touched it" report.
but what i do take as pretty serious is the overall design, with it's p900-style buttons (love 'em!!) and the slicker design.

I saw this, after waiting for a P1000 (or whatever) for so long. Most disappointed, and I have a friend who works for o2 who says that is the final design after I quizzed him hard about it.
So I've just been out and bought a Trëo 650 to replace my ageing P900.
It's actually very nice!

People, Nokia 9500 is aimed at business people who need to create content, its not just a PDA/phone its a laptop replacement. I have owned the P910, Nokia 9500, 9300, 7710 and the Treo 650. My view is that the P910 (and probably the P950) are aimed at people who would be interested in the Treo 650 style of device - tablet, touch screen, quick one-handed operation and in general used to carry around content copied/synced from a PC/laptop. The 9500 on the other hand, again IMHO, can be used to create and manage content. Also the wide screen of the 9500/9300 gives you a different experience, especially when using Opera. Think of the 9500/9300 as the Psion 5 & Revo and the P9xx as being like the original Palm Pilot - different concepts using similar technologies.

The Nokia Communicators are more akin to the Psion 3xx line. Mind you, I don't mean that in a denigrating way: My first PDA was a Psion Series 3a and in some ways it was the most complete PDA I've ever owned. With it, I could do everything I could do with my PC at the time: Process words, sheet spreads, base data, do games, go online (those were the days of BBSs and Fidonet, at a staggering 9600 baud!), print stuff. All virtually right out of the box (mine came with a print adapter and a games pack -- Yes, Steve, Fairway was on it! --, so there).

These days, almost anything on that list costs extra or is more difficult to do. But hey! I can watch movies and listen to seventies heavy rock, so it's all okay, eh?

although I used the best Casio and Sharp organisers before the psion II (which I still have) and 3a (and later 5/5a) I do agree with you regarding the 3a capabilities (and yes, I was a 3lib/fairway,steve litchfield fan in those days too). I have also owned and used all nokia communicators and all P series models and can say that they each have their own attributes that appealed to me but none really provided everything I needed in one package
Indeed the only device to date that has done that is the windows mobile devices and specifically the i-mate JAM as its both a windows mobile device and a phone in one unit.
No doubt I will check out any new P series with a hopeful outlook I still fear that they will no longer meaure up to the windows mobile offerings

I have been a loyal SE and Ericsson fan for years.
Lately, SE's disregard for the american consumer has disappointed me.
The only thing that will hold me, is a P series with WIFI and a Windows OS. Ohh.. also 850 MHZ.
Other wise I will probably go for the II XDA or III XDA.
I've litterally held off purchasing my next two phones (Play phone and Work Phone ). Waiting on a W800 with 850MHZ and a P series with Windows / WIFI.
