skype is one of the major VOIP providers. there are many others, like vonage, etc.

I just got word that Nokia and Smart just finished their HSDPA test. Anyone "in the know" can confirm? I'm aware its only an upgrade to current 3G infrastructure but if Smart would be going to offer such, I guess they would focus on the corporate space.

Skype is one of the major VoIP services available but uses a proprietary protocol compared to others like SIP, H.323 and IAX. But being proprietary didn't hamper growth of Skype usage though (I am a heavy user myself)

BTW guys, I'm not sure if I should post it here (apologies if not) but I'm not so much of a big Windows user. I have a k600i with pretty awesome Smart 3G coverage in the city and in my home province in Batangas. I could connect my phone via Bluetooth but what should I do for my phone to become an internet gateway using the Smart 3G connection?

HSDPA would have a definite advantage over WIMAX as it only requires a software upgrade vs WIMAX's new infrastructure requirement.
imagine pldt's GPRS/EDGE weroam service migrating to HSDPA! kelan kaya?
Smart shows 'enhanced' 3G service with HSDPA
i doubt it if you can turn your phone into a gateway. but you can hook it up to a computer and turn that into an adhoc gateway instead.

would you need an HSDPA-compatible handset also or can existing 3G handsets take advantage of the faster speeds?
