You`re so wrong, even U8500 from late 2009 was dual-core Cortex A9 processor.. and it was first to incorporate Mali 400 GPU.

Here it is the whole 2011 ST-Ericsson line up, presented at MWC this February:

The Nova A9600, built in 28nm, will deliver groundbreaking multimedia and graphics performance, featuring a dual-core ARM Cortex- A15-based processor running up to up to 2.5 GHz breaking the 20k DMIPS barrier, and a POWERVR Rogue GPU that delivers in excess of 210 GFLOPS. The graphics performance of the A9600 will exceed 350 million ‘real’ polygons per second and more than 5 gigapixels per second visible fill rate (which given POWERVR’s deferred rendering architecture results in more than 13 gigapixels per second effective fill rate). Thanks to Rogue Nova will support all existing APIs such as Microsoft DirectX. The Nova A9600 is sampling in 2011.

The Nova A9540, built in 32nm, uses a dual-core Cortex-A9 running at up to 1.8 GHz and delivers graphics performance up to four times that of the U8500 and is sampling H2 2011.

The Nova A9500, built in 45 nm, uses a dual-core Cortex-A9 running at clock speeds of up to 1.2GHz, with Mali™ 400 improving graphics performance up to 20 percent, supporting full HD camcorder capabilities and up to 20 megapixel cameras. It is sampling and in design with ST-Ericsson customers today.

The Thor M7400 can connect to 2G, 3G, TD-SCDMA, HSPA, HSPA+ dual carrier and LTE FDD/TDD networks. It offers peak download speeds of up to 100Mbps in LTE networks. The Thor M7400 supports voice calls via fallback to circuit-switched networks and via the VoLTE (Voice over LTE) standard, it is sampling Q2 2011.

The Thor M7300 is a multimode HSPA+ modem supporting speeds of up to 84Mbps and is sampling Q2 2011.

The NovaThor U9500 is a complete platform combining Thor M5730 with A9500 and is sampling now.

The NovaThor T5008 platform combines a TD-HSPA+ modem with dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 and Mali 400 graphics. It supports full HD camcorder capabilities and up to 20 megapixel cameras and is sampling Q2 2011.

The NovaThor U4500 platform combines a powerful Cortex-A9 application processor with a HSPA+ modem. It supports DVD-quality camcorder capabilities and 8 megapixel cameras and samples in 1H 2011.

So, Ericsson produce dualcore processors? Why don't they insert to SE device al the time?

WOW!!! i'm market as a spammer, this is very sad.

Apparently they had problems with their 8500 design. SE was forced to choose qualcomm 2011 because of this. The 2012 lineup is said to have ST-ericssons SOCs, guess we will see

ST-Ericsson is making losses and apart from Nokia no other manufacturer has used their processors. I think that does say a lot about the whole situation.

So yes will live on for the first half of 2012 and even for little longer. Only by 2013 shall be fully integrated/absorbed by Sony Electronics.

So still has some life left.

I just saw benchmarks about HTC Sensation Z710t which use ST-Ericsson dual-core A9500
Here it is the scores compared to 4G version of Sensation with Qualcomm chip.

Neocore:
4G - 41 MFLOPS
Z710t - 38 MFLOPS

AnTutu:
4G - 3247
Z710t - 4729

Glad to hear that there's some possibilities that next year there will be SE phones..Because I'm doubt about Sony phone's performance..In the another side, I'm wondering about the integration with other Sony devices..it's cool

Neocore had been developed by Qualcomm, so it no surprise here as it should have better driver optimized for 4G but Z710t use Mali 400 did a respected performance for not fully graphic driver optimized yet.

Nowadays, I'm preferred to AnTuTu to compare hardware performance one to other and Z710t did outclassed performance to 4G.

Could you provide a reference link please?

Here it is - chinese page, with a lot of screen shots of Z710t
http://detail.zol.com.cn/pict[....]0/index7393328_0_p283076.shtml

and I was mistaken it`s not Neocore but Linpack result 38,6 MFLOPS. Neocore result for Z710t is 49,6 FPS.

We have to point that NovaThor used in Z710t was underclocked at 1GHz not 1,2 like pure Nova A9500.
I think NovaThor in Z710t does some respectable job beating Qualcomm 1,2GHz at some test, and Tegra2 in Optimus 2x at others.

This thread has suddenly died with the Sony takeover, sad but life has to move on.

Funny how the last SE phone I bought was/is the last one that had soul and not just a shell with SE on it like all the new SE phones have become. The P1i is their last true great smartphone and I am still in love with it to this day, the fact that it is still my primary phone says a lot about it. The other phones with the SE soul were the T610i, T68i, K700i, K750i, K800i, K850i, W800, W810i, C905i, P-series line-up.

I hope Sony brings their A-game or they might as well have left SE die a natural death as they were dying in any way.

I am really looking forward to what Sony does with their phones cause I will need a powerhouse of a phone in 2013 and they will most likely be my first choice for sentimental reasons and because there isn't much out there that appeals to me, that, however, doesn't mean I will accept mediocrity from them.

I am also hoping that they do prove me wrong and succeed cause I am tired of going through all these changes, first, I had a girlfriend named Ericsson, then Sony Ericsson and now it looks like I am about to start dating another one named Sony or something completely different depending on what Sony decides to call their mobile division. I am getting fed up with falling in love within one family and it ends up not working out

So, Sony, make this the fairytale relationship, like fairytales exist LOL, and take me on an exciting journey of technological innovation and excitement.

Don't make me regret it now!

it's funny that P1i was certainly abused by detractors during its birth since at that time many are drooled with the N95 which i think was a flop if not for its unmatched specs in paper. P1 was a nice phone and sadly i never owned one even with just a second hand that phone had nice design and functionality, SE really innovated with the styling on that phone as it doesn't look neither Sony nor Ericsson.
