You will need a separate handset for this. At the moment, there are some available from Samsung (who seems to lead the pack), BenQ-Siemens and T-Mobile. But HSDPA is more suited for PC Cards imo.

I am able to connect my laptop to the phone via bluetooth but only for sending/receiving files. I can configure the phone to be a modem, but I would like to take advantage of the free 3G and test its speed. So far, I am stumped on this. Windows has a bluetooth network setting but I have no idea on its purpose considering it asks for an IP address.

have you tried installing PC Suite and its modem drivers? once you do that and all else fails, try connecting the phone to your PC with the USB cable. i know that when you do connect via USB, a screen comes up on the phone asking if you want a connection for file transfer or for modem connection.

I got to connect to the phone via bluetooth using dial-up networking with *99# and I get a speed of 115kbps...
The problem now is that it seems i need to setup something for my PC to be able to surf the net with the said bluetooth network connection. The bluetooth phone can easily surf on websites by itself using Smart 3G.

hmmm when you installed PC Suite did you also install the SE Communication Center? i have it installed but haven't tried using it yet. it looks like it simplifies the process of using your phone as a modem.
as an aside, i do use BT + smart 3G for accessing the net with my PDA and it's really great!

my mom bought me a phone yesterday.. a Sony Ericsson k300i for only P6500.. it's my first time, actually, to be using a sony ericsson phone.. enweiz, the phone's cute enough.. the camera jz fits the price.. it lacks fm radio, but it's ok coz im planin to by an mp4 player.. moving on.. i've read from the internet that it can be connected to any computer through a usb port/cable, so we bought one.. but when i pluged it in my pc, my phone jz gave me the message: optimized charging (the same message the phone dsplays when being charged) meaning, the port just charges the cp through the computer but no exchange of files going on.. how's that? can i not transfer my files using such cable? im afraid our pc's not infrared capable.. are there other ways possible for me to transfer my files from my mobile to my pc and vice versa? hoping for good replies..

there should be a cd that came with it that contains PC Suite and the phone drivers. you should install the software first before connecting the phone.
