I have received an official email invite from Sony Ericsson asking me if I would like to go down to their HQ in Hammersmith and take part in a Q&A on how to further develop the Xperia Play.

Now, why would they send this out if the Xperia Play 2 was cancelled.

Well if they just start to think how to develop it, it look like it is canceled after all.

Go there and say what we all think right here - all their best components and technologies in one device, plus replaceable QWERTY/Gamepad. It will be huge success in US market too, and that what Sony wants didn`t they.

More Sony influence on SE as the Arc and Acro in Japan get playstation certified.

@goldenface

It's because the Play 2 that SE was working on was cancelled and Sony have ordered a redesign/redevelopment of the project.

(if you're collecting opinions:) I think Play 2 should have a bigger screen, best available CPU/RAM/battery. Aesthetics should be secondary to being an actual gaming device i.e. ditch the touch pad areas for proper analogue sticks even if it means the phone is a little bit uglier. If they're going to start dishing Playstation certified for non Sony family devices (as suggested) they need to make sure they're the top of their own game.

I think the play2 is canceled and they wanna make the play live longer. The problem is that mobile gaming will take over. In time it will probably take over consoles also, just imagine plugging your phone into the tv and use a wireless controller. It will happen only in a few years from now, maybe even starting next year.

Sony is betting on the wrong horse. They should cancel Vita, it will be a huge flop, and instead invest in mobile gaming, the future. But they wont, they will try to battle iphone and android gaming hard as they always do when a new thing comes (like mp3). When you see the speed in which mobile handsets evolve, play3 would already be better than Vita and probably have better looking games and bigger ecosystem also. PSP and nintendo DS was made for a market that doesnt exist anymore, just look at the recent DS sales, iphone is totally taking over.

Its a shame, SE and Sony really had a great chance here. Taking the lead in handheld gaming. Instead Samsung or Apple will take the market from them. Maybe even microsoft, rumors about next xbox running on ARM and having tight mobile integration http://msnerd.tumblr.com/

woo hoo.. that would be very nice indeed. i'd also settle for the same gorgeous OLED screen as the walkman Z

Walkman Z has a 4.3 inch TFT LCD screen and not OLED. But yes is is indeed gorgeous and OLED like.

Oops. i was thinking of the older walkman X. Shame they didn't keep the OLED going into the walkman Z. I'm not overly concerned which one it is, as long as it looks gorgeous (and Sony/SE have rarely disappointed on this point).

Right now ipnone 4s is the king in smartphone mobile phone camera quality. I don't include here Nokia N8 becouse is software dead and has multiple hardware manufactures problems.
I am not a fan of apple brand but I recongnize that photos taken with iphone 4s are 5stars

like I said .. iphone is the best cameraphone today http://www.gsmarena.com/8mp_shootout_2011-review-673.php.
Second place is samsung galaxy s II.

Xperia Arc is in other category...

Even last sony tablets are a disaster in camera performances... even if they have 5 MP cameras..
Also I heard that next year sony will came on market with only 3 new phones only.

Sony will never learn from mistakes... so will have a pink future if they will do so..

Tablets are not meant to have great cameras. Nonetheless the Tablet S camera is the best camera on a tablet currentlly, by far. And this has been mentioned by every single review on the tablet that its camera is far superior to the competition.

The HTC ville will launch at MWC and will run on the 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Series 4 (Krait) dual core processor. Perhaps we'll see the same in Nozomi?
