Does it actually matter if it comes from switching from one manufacturer to another? From UI desing point of view, no. Opinions, like yours, are then another matter.
If the UI is really intuitive enough, it doesn't matter. It's not a fault in the phone as such, but it sure is a bad UI desing. And no, there's no phone UI, that can title itself a really intuitive enough UI today. In fact, all of them are still pretty far from it. There are just more user friendly and less user friendly UIs.
Yes it does matter because what are being touted as faults may be nothing more than simple user misunderstanding. The public at large are not necessarily mobile saavy and even, what we would term, basic knowledge of such matters may be something that they do not possess.
A UI is only as good as the user using it. A UI could be the most intuitive ever produced, but if a user doesn't like it and decides that it is boring or not very good then it isn't for them. UI's don't necessarily have to be intuitive, they simply have to appeal to customers on a certain level. Customers then get used to them.
I wouldn't be handing Motorola any awards for intuitive UI design, yet there are people who swear by Motorola handsets. Others praise the simplicity of Nokia's UI yet some people criticise it for being either bland or awkward.
Calling a UI 'user friendly' is something of a misnomer. What is 'user friendly'? Each person has their own preferences and will view such things in that light. All any UI can do is attempt to appeal to a broad range of people.

BTW. I don't quite get why people are so defensive when someone publishes FFR stats for different manufacturers. I can see a lot of people making excuses why is it so. That's a way wrong approach to it. Those kind of stats should be taken seriously and make corrective actions accordingly. But of course I believe that SE will take those kind of stats seriously. It's just the SE fans who are trying to explain it to themselves somehow. And every manufacturer also have their own FFR data which they are relying.
I don't there is anyhting wrong in questioning such things, if we simply took them at face value we may miss something. I don't think anyone is being overly defensive here, perhaps a few fanboys may take umbridge, but on the whole people are looking to question and find out what is going on.

SE really dissapointed me with the quality of the K700 - i bought it last year on the 29th june -
1) the back cover for the battery makes cracking noises when pressing any button - i already went to the se service center - they gave me a new one (which was very kind!) but after a month it cracked again
2) the joystick doesn't respond from time to time
3) the black arrow button vanished
4) the online sticker fell of
5) QuickSave sticker fell of
6) the black plastic cover which wants to save the connectors don't wants to stick to the phone - its always half open
7) the battery is always dusty(when i open the cover), even though i clean my phone once a month

the silver plastic around the lense (where the mirror is) is now dark grey(a half circle) - don't know the reason
9) the number keys a really terrible to use (you have to see it, to believe it)
10) the C button stays in the phone when i press it too often
i have never written down the problems i have with the k700
it is still a great phone - feature wise - but the quality sucks big times (don't have any issues with the software, works perfect)
Agree with all the points you raised excepting 10, I never had that problem. However I the only problem that actually irritated me is point 2, the other factors are more about perception than actual impediments to use (besides 10). Point 2 I've heard could be improved with updates, however my Vodafone handset wasn't updateable by SEUS, so I never bothered. The delay to me was acceptable, and it was the only thing that ever struck me as difficult about the phone. In all other respects it is sterling. One day I removed the cover and it got worse (I was very careful, and have a lot of experience pulling phones apart), so in fairness it probably is joystick design at fault rather than software.
glade there is someone with the same problems - i feel with you dude
a Se service center updated my Voda software - but a problem occured - an icon in the menu turned black - they didn't find the reason for this, so they send it to the headquater in austria, where they had to delete the voda software - so now it is running on the normal sony ericsson software without any branding(yes, i had luck)
at the moment i try to live with the faults the phone has - i guess i'll buy a new one when they finally release a premium phone (you know razor(which is=awesome design) but with more features)
i must be an idiot to buy another sony ericsson after this terrible experience with the k700 - but well

Actually jack00, I was VERY impressed with the K700. Like I said, all the probs listed are trivial bar one or two, and those I could live with.
IN ALL OTHER respects the K700 is a ground breaking, powerful, class leading phone.
Vodafone of course suck, and I'm glad you got yourself an unbranded phone out of them

@max_wedge
Now there is a point for consideration ... how many of these faults can be attributed to firmware problems caused by the likes of Vodafone meddling with it?

if i wouldn't like the features of the phone, you could bet that i woudn't use it anymore
features aren't everything - yes i can live with the faults - but whats with the guys that are not se addicted (which i am), they will never again buy a sony ericsson, se is losing its image(and customers) more and more with such faults - which is sad, because phones like the T610 and K750(haven't seen any in austria so i can only guess) have a great quality
---- @the nokia stuff that krubach said -----
true indeed, i know many people that own the 6230(hope i don't mix up the f*cking numbers) - they don't even know that it has an external memory and mp3 support
they don't even know how to put mp3s on the 6230(which is sad)
they just bought it because of the design or because so many people have it
-------- i only laught at one who said that he wishes to have an mp3 player because those are so cool, i told him that it is possible to upgrade the memory and that it is pretty easy to play mp3s on his phone - he was really shocked lol

from my own observation, and also with discussion in several vodafone shops recently, vodafone no longer sell any phones that are unbranded. i.e. all phones of all makes have some sort of customisation
I'll be happy if anyone can confirm a brand and model that vodafone now sell for which that is not the case

SE 910 my first SE. Compared to Nokia Reliability is quite poor. Had to change a touchscreed within 2 months of purchase.

In my experience vodafone firmware is just tight arsed, for example on the T610, 25% of available memory was taken up with undeleteable content (500KB of 2MB). I've also heard they used the activity button on K750 as a Vodafone Live button - I hope that is a false rumour, because that would be quite rude...
Also some versions of vodafone firmware have been unstable, compared to non-vodafone handsets of the same model, but I have no direct experience of this myself, only forum reports.
