If all these non-smokers are so concerned about there health, why are they damaging there liver with all the alcohol? (I’d imagine most who visits pubs have an alcoholic drink).
I am against the total ban on smoking, as an ex smoker (almost a year now

) I know how nice it was to have a pint and a fag!
A fag??

LOL!!!!

I am delighted they are going to have a complete ban.
I have had countless number of meals ruined from having smokers next to me.
I worked in a bar and the amount of smoke i used to breathe in was frightening. why should workers lives be possibly shortened because of the actions of others.
I have friends who are tryin desperately to stop smoking and they all say it would be LOADS easier if everytime they were out in public there wasnt people smoking all around them.
I don't really think their can be any arguement against the ban. If you want to smoke then fine but you have to do it in the open air or the privacy of your own home. And finally non smokers no longer have to tollerate the stench of smoking and have their own health jepordised (spelling?!). Plus i stringly believe this will help reduce the number of smokers in future generations which will 100% undoubtedly save lives.

but...... to drink next to someone doesnt harm the other person... to smoke next to them does..... - dont you get that?
I think its quite selfish really.... i used to smoke but at the end of the day, i repesect other peoples rights.... i would never have a fag somewhere where it directly effects someone else - e.g: if i was in a resturant and wanted oine, i'd go outside, isnt this called certacy? (my spelling sucks - i know)

most other European countries are happy to provide smoking and non smoking areas, with sutible divisions to prevent smoke from going into the non smoking area.
now tell me, whats wrong with that?

nothing... i think people should be allowed to, but there should be 'areas' in public places to do it.... that way no one can be affected by someone elses habbit....
I work in a bar in cardiff, and honestly, its so smoky, its not fair on the ones who dont smoke....

so you could kind of agree that an 'all out smoking ban' is over the top, and that legislation on separating smokers by having enclosed or air filtered smoking areas would be a more sensible idea?
then at least people can have there smoking freinds come to the pub with them?

totally agree!
A total ban is out of the question in my opinion.
But the way it is at the moment is a bit unfair on the non-smoker... Personally i dont mind smokers but i do know a lot of people who do mind it and can totally sympathis with them in feeling its a little unfair affecting their health...
The gov would have a lot to answer to if they banned it out rightly (allowing something that gettings you addicted, then banning it) ummmm... if i were a smoker id say theres scope to complain heavily!

Hmm maybe, but people have been smoking for a long, long time, long before medical advancement made it possible to determine that it was causing ill health. I doubt you would get any court to blame the government for allowing people to smoke without knowing the consequences.

i doubt the govement would ever try to ban smoking outright. it would open a huge can of worms with drinking etc and peoples civil liberties.
in this case theyve just gone to far, i m all for food places been non smoking and i all for certain pubs at the landlords and customers request. but a blanket ban like this is pointless and unmanagable.
the police wont be arsed to enforce it they cant even manage to turn up when your house is been burgled so i can see them chasing down to a pub sirens blazing demanding a fag gets put out.
it will no doubt fall to the local councils and they ll make a mess of it in the same way theyve messed up the recent opening hours for pubs
