Well, i dont think it'll be too hard to "port" (although port is the wrong word to use because all you'll be doing is copying a few files over and adding a few things to the registry) anyway, the main walkman executable is called walkmanplayer.exe and it's stored in C:\sys\bin the visulizations (written in xml) are stored in a folder called "kastor" which is copied to the rom drive on startup (who knows where it's copied from) and there's a few other files littered around. The main problem: the file system is locked down good and proper on uiq 3 so i have no idea how to get my hands on these files.
I'm sure someone with enough knowledge and the right tools can do it though.

@-Kitsune-
I doubt stuff is copied TO the ROM drive (ROM = Read Only Memory). I think the case is that they are just stored there, since that's where the OS is stored. (The thing you flash with SEUS.)

@firetech
Isn't the ROM what's been cached in RAM?

You guys either don't understand business or you are living in a state of denial. SE made it hard on purpose. The object being that the W900 is a Walkman device, thus the branding, and special player for media. Hence a business model. By allowing the cross branding of products, both will lose value. Is this really that hard to understand?

We get the picture but it's the same as PC games, they put copy protection on it for a reason: so that you cant copy games and share with your friends, instead forcing them to buy their own copy, increasing overall sales. Crackers crack the game so that they can share them between friends so they dont have to fork out hard earned cash on a $2 plastic disk that entertains for a month at most.

Same here, SE locked the filesystem down to stop porting and in turn increase sales, people with the know how want to port it so that they dont have to fork out a few hundred $ for a second phone that they want purely for the Walkman player.

It's a simple concept.

Ok, you already said it like a million times. We got you, ok?
Stop posting if all what you're gonna say is "it's not gonna happen". FINE!! WE GOT IT!!

I totally agree with jason and the others who feel that we should have the choice of installing whatever programs we want on our devices, specially when those cell phones are NOT cheap at all and they run on an OS that is supposed to let you install multiple programs.

I personally think that is really f***ing it up with this 'segmentation' they want to implement. And that's the main reason why I haven't replaced my K750, I don't like the fact that the K800 uses M2 and has a basic player, when I already have a 2Gb MS almost full of music, or that the W850 doesn't have AutoFocus just because is a 'walkman phone' and I just find the P990 too big... so I still don't seem to find a worhty replacement to my K750 and I've been wanting to do so for some time now. So, in my case -and a lot of other K750's owners who are holding on to them 'cause they don't like the newer models- is losing business, and potentially, brand loyalty.

You guys have missed my point or I have not explained it properly. I too have no problems with having the media player, however, I KNOW FOR A FACT, that SE has locked the OS tighter than (uuhhh, can't think of an appropriate or funny saying at the moment). I agree that SE is screwing up and ignoring their customers needs and or desires. I used to have 2 or 3 of the latest SE phones, but no more. I switched to Nokia simply because they provide a range that is more satisfying. I am all for some enterprising genius coming along and cracking the phone but SE is making sure that it will not happen so that the two product lines never cross.
