SEs flagship markets are Europe and Japan. As has been stated. korea is Asia's 3rd largest mobile market, much more advanced than Europe. The USA is another battle altogether.

i thinks SE's strategy is quite clear. keep a strong and growing pressence in europe and asia, and charge the special asia countries like india and korea.
in 2008 they'll probably go for north america.

@bart I would say the US is harder for SE to crack than India. MMS, musicphones cameraphones, convergence devices in general, haven't had the same take up. Even SMS still isn't commonplace. Although high-speed networks seem to be emerging in the US which is interesting. If SE can make an impact in Korea then wow, I think they would have achieved something special. I truly believe that.

That would indeed be some feat. It would need to come with some serious hardware to enter the fray in Korea - probably one of the toughest markets.

Actually Hyundai is doing just fine, Kia was the one that was in trouble a few years back and is currently owned by Hyundai. GM owns Daewoo and announced it bankrupt a year or so ago, and hence it ceased to exist. Now in Egypt we get Chevys made in Kprea
Oh ans since I'm already way of topic, Renault bought part of Nissan, a Japanese company if you were wondering.
Ye well, as long as my Fav brand VW owns quit a bit, Audi, Lambo, Buggati and Bently to name just a few.

I'd say that network infrastructure may be the first hurdle.
Overcoming local product preference is simply a matter of marketing and strategic partnerships with local companies.
Nokia and SE products are easily good enough to have broad appeal.
