jus thought i'd add that theres no point sayin that they use a cheap CMOS...
theres hardly no difference between CMOS and CCD anymore like there used to be...
Fuji and Cannon use CMOS sensors on their highest spec cameras so would this still make them inferior or cheap???
And on the note of N95 vs K800i... Wait another year for the N95 camera firmware to mature and then compare...

I'm fully aware of the status of CMOS technology compared to CCD. What I was saying was that it was cheap censor, not that it was cheap because it was CMOS. There are good CMOS censors, and there are BAD CMOS censors....

How did you crop the picture? Looks to me the zoomed ratio is different for both pix. I opened both pix (in their original resolution) using paint and zoomed to 200% and what I saw on the screen still shows N95 pict to be clearer.
I think all this is mute point. Nobody zoomed in to that level. For me, I just need pix to look good on my 19inch at full-screen mode and for what it is worth N95 pix, imo is still clearer and looks more vibrant that K800. If this is not proof enough then so be it.

i severely doubt people take photos and then stare at them for hours trying to find out what their camera missed and what it took. K800 is better, but is it better enough to prefer it over N95? No. I am not going to prefer K800 because a certain guy's jacket looks better.
The jacket is just one example I've used to demonstrated the overall superior photos of the K800. Even from a distance the better detail of the K800 photo is obvious. I just posted the close up because it shows the compression artifacts on the N95 more clearly. Because of the superior detail, the K800 will print better photos than the N95, which is certainly important to anyone who is buying the phone for it's imaging ability.
No-one is comparing photos to prove either phone is better than the other overall, the camera question is just one little micro-issue in the discussion, we don't need you to point that out....

then we have to agree to disagree.
The first pic are zoomed to the same size, the second pic they are each at their actual size. The N95 has less noise, but not more detail. Maybe it does look better to you, but to me the higher compression of the N95 photos is clearly obvious at 1:1 on my computer monitor, sitting at a normal distance away, and to me it looks like a water colour. I much prefer the K800 photo over the N95.
But I'm also not a fan of the vibrant colours, they are certainly unrealistic even if it makes a colourful image. I'm more into realism than something that looks like it's been photoshopped and had noise reduction kill the detail.
I think you are confusing "clearer" with "detail". The N95 is clearer because of the reduction in detail (that is achieved by compressing the image more thereby throwing away some of the detail)

If you look at original firmware N93 pict, it has a lot detail + noise and it is sharp. But K800 pix just look blur + more noise.

in this thread it's a micro issue. Whether SE has a phone that can compete on all terms with N95 is the MACRO issue of this thread, not which camera is better. Which camera is better is a smaller thread within the overall thread, therefore a micro issue. Not micro as in tiny, small, unimportant. Just micro as in smaller than the overall issue.
At this point, I really don't care about how micro an issue it is or isn't, how much detail is in a guys jacket, or whether CMOS is better than CCD.
All I did was post a response to the claim that the N95 camera was better than the K800. Then someone posted links to pictures, which I had a look at and gave my views as to why I think they show the K800 in a better light than the N95.
So far it seems only mib has done me the decency of engaging my on an arguement based on it's merits rather than nit pick things of no relevance...
Thank you Mib, you prove yourself a gentleman once again...

I haven't seen any N93 pics yet.

3.2 or 5mp not any big diff to me really!it would've been diff if one of these had optical zoom which isn't the case so lets drop the cam issue as they both tops!!the video is a big issue though.and over all i hope

bring out a phone with dvb-h and walkman plus say 5mp cam with optical zoom and big screen soon.MTN SA has already launched the dvb-h service for free and when i went to buy my n95 i actually considered the dum sagem they had on display lol but never took it because of lack of other features.GPS isn't a big deal especially since you have to still pay for voice commands(refering to n95) as in reality the small screen doesn't work well at when driving...unless you pull of the road lol

SE will skip the N95 competitor and are working on an all in 1 phone which will probably be out by the end of the year. It will pack features like DVB-H, so don't you lot worry, se will deliver ;-)
