UIQ3.1 is designed for use without touchscreen afaik.
I've seen people claim this a few times and just thought I'd clear things up: UIQ3.0 and UIQ3.1 can both do touchscreen and non-touchscreen. Just check UIQ's site, the features for UIQ 3 list "Several UI configurations are supported to meet the requirements of different phone styles, for example Softkey Style for one-handed use and Pen Style for pen-based use" (

http://developer.uiq.com/devl[....]tsNew3_0.html#whatsnew%2eguide ). Now, UIQ 3.1 can do everything 3.0 does and more so it too can in theory support touchscreen (sure, some of its new features focus on improving non-ts support but ts-support is still in there).
So the capability is there, it's just whether or not handset manufacturers choose to use it or not. In fact, although SE has focussed on UIQ 3.0 and touchscreen anyone with a P990 should know that when the flip is closed it goes into non-touchscreen mode!

i definetely like the new SE phones but the w960 is just great!!! it has all the same things as the n95: GPS(you have to buy a GPS headset), walman 3.0, UIQ 3,1, 3,2 megapixel camera(far better than the N95), wifi, 8 GB internal memory and a many many features...

it has UIQ 3.0 not 3.1

The K530 has the most underrated design, it's perfect IMO. Specs-wise I can live with the 2mp camera, I can live with no shutter as well, but no HSDPA? And what's up with SE singling it out all its Symbian devices from HSDPA? It's really lame that W960 and P1(a 'truly' connected powerhouse) do not have it. That's what happens when you have retards as decision makers.

You got a point there but sales figures aside, where's the logic in stuffing HSDPA in a phone aimed for the use of imaging/music enthusiasts and singling it out on ALL of its symbian based business phones where data speed is of the essence (hence the wifi & 3G capabilities, but no HSDPA?) Still seems like a retard's decision to me

The K850 on paper compared to the K800 may seem like just a little bit has been added, however, comparing it to my K790a, I'm extremely excited to finally have a 3G SE in the states. As far as camera quality, the pictures look phenomenal on the phone, if I'm looking to take something I want to print or share, I'll bring my alpha with me. I'll be picking up a K850 the day it drops. call me a sony fanboy if you will, I won't dispute that, but as far as releasing a phone for the US, SE did exactly what needed to be done.

PS: reading strategy is good, it gives a glimpse of the company's potential future, but for us (consumers) we need a run for the money we're paying. so strategies aside
Hardware:
the company made a very good leap. embeding its flagship with all the whistles and bells. from a 5mpx, to HSDPA, accelerometer, 2.2 inch screens. they focused on thin form factor, and they introduced mobile design that's unlike any in the industry. t650, s500. even the K850 is the first phone i've ever seen with D-pad surrounding not one, but two number buttons. WiFi, external GPS (very clever solution imho, coz if embeded in any model, would drive the cost of the relative handset sky high.
K850: a very decent upgrade, but i must say, for a flagship cybershot to show its muscles in taking picture, the company should have created some sort of TV connection with the mobile (snap a shot or a vid, and let your buddies see all the action on the big screen.
and i wish that instead of using an automatical screen cap, SE should have armed it with an optical zoom (with mechanism like T1 sony cybershot cam)
W960: 3.2 mpx, wifi, 128 ram !!!! a serious iphone competitor, and i'm seriously thinking of canceling my P1 order for this one.... (ps, wish it had stereo speakers, a la w550)
PS: goforce anyone? no !
Software:
acquiring UIQ ignited plentyfull of ideas and rumours. but the reality turned differently. we were all expecting a symbian in that sofia, (due to those stupid three lil untactile buttons) but our hopes fell short.
they reworked the media player, java platform 8 both are welcomed effort. but seriously why not including some safety measures like password protected file manager (like MOTOs)? or even a PDF/Word/Excel viewers ? plenty of users like to read a book on the go!!
K850: media player improvement and camera interface reworked. good. but where are the other goodies?
W960: can't say a thing, you just took the marvelous walkman player of the beautiful w950, and made it 5 times better. plus a beautiful bluetooth headphone is a smart move.
sorry if the post was behemoth, i think it sheds some light over different aspects, and hopefully the beloved joint venture has spies reading and writting feedback notes..
