However a lot of people have mentioned that the P1i is not a "true" upgrade of the P990i.
I don't know if it's only those people who just have bought the P990i -that was late on the market - and therefore wont accept that the P1i really is the replacement for the p990i???

My question is what I am to expect of the "true" replacement of the P990i - what many know as the P3i? (Thought it would be called P2i??? ) Since many people say that you shouldn't buy the P1i...

Many says the flip will be back but what about the size in general?
Can we expect the same small size of the P1i?
What functions will there be in the P3i?

my advice is to stop reading what people are saying about future phones and if you don't like the p1 then wait for to announce new phones
you are only guiding on other's THOUGHTS, others "rumors" but you should wait for official announcements.
those who said that are working for p3 are just guessing what they will release. i don't understand their thoughts.nobody will remember who said p3 will come out,so what's the point?

for me p3, w1 and other shit don't exist until announcement.btw, my next phone is (currently) w960

I would go for an 'all screen' device, I think.

If it's the same size, or smaller, than the p1. And the screen has some form of technology that would make it consume power sparsely (like, a type of plasma screen with selective, asynchronous updates). But without any lag, obviously. Phased quantum streams? And there must be an option to connect a wireless keyboard, to better accommodate my ranting. And the keyboard should be entirely flat, and weigh ten grams. And be possible to fold neatly away and put in a pocket.

I mean, let's be realistic here.

The form factor of the P990 is just about perfect. I would expect the P990 successor to have a flip, a qwerty keyboard, maybe a 3" transreflective touchscreen (not too big to keep the size manageable), thinner (I wouldn't add lighter as I don't like plastic), faster processor, better battery capacity and minimum 128 MB RAM. For the rest, SE needs to impress me if they want to win me back as a customer.

Asking for trouble, look what happens to joysticks...

I have owned all the P series and the one thing that has never caused a problem is the 5 way dial!

Yep the jog dials of my p800 and p900 always worked very well. So as the flip. If you dont like the flip you can simply remove it
I think p1i size is aceptable and a nice piece of hardware but there are some things missing: Built in GPS, 3,5mm audio output, Wifi G, good qwerty keybord like p990, free built in messenger application and 5mp will be a bonus;)

But the perfect P3i for me will be something like a k850 size and design with p990i qwerty keybord, p900 flip and jog dial and all N95 8Gb features :P

And four hours of standby.

A 3,5mm jack for audio output would've been nice, though. Of course, since SE sucks at marketing, it would instantly cause all mobile reviews to read "and this drains the battery instantly if I use my $100 ear- muffs, and the soundquality is horrendous! Clearly a wrong- headed attempt by SE to copy what Nokia phones have done successfully for years!". Still..

P3i should be a reliable(in the sense of RAM),same form factor of the p990i but lighter, supports Flash, 3.2MP is enough,3 inch screen with improvement when using it outdoor(direct sunlight),wifi g,HSPDA,EDGE,good battery life, good browser(like the opera 9 hope so..),GPS is not that important for all users but its better if they include it,improve the sounds. Don't expect more from SE, a "good" upgrade is enough for us to have a reliable phone with nice features and not a superb features.
