what about p990i?
does that alarm works with phone turned off? Guess not cause its also a symbian phone ...

Nope P990 doesn't ring alarm when its Off, NO NOT because its a symbian,simply because SE didn't put that function in for some weir reason. Nokia Symbians are able to ring alarm when they are Off.

P1i is one of my favorites because of the touchscreen. Now using COMWISE d120 and it alarms even with an empty battery. My K800 and Z1010 and T39 did alarm also in off position, but not with empty battery.

No, not the P990 either. Not the P910, or the P900, or the P800. Not the M600i. Not the W950i. Not the W960i. Not the prototype M610 that's knocking around somewhere. Not any of the SE symbian phones.
None of them.
I know, it's shocking, some of us have been living with this knowledge for five years now, how do we cope? Just a case of taking each day as it comes, I guess.

wrong, flight mode is PHONE-OFF, its a mode where the phone module is OFF but the PDA module is ON, its the same way with windows mobile (PPC) even though you press the power button, it doesnt mean you actually cut the power of the PDA, it just go into suspended mode. what you are looking for is a flight mode in screen-off mode. how did i know this? because aside from p1i, i also have a PPC and a treo, both of them, even though in "PHONE-OFF" mode still consume power and will be out of battery in a week or so.

Well, that's a pedantic technicality. To me 'phone off' means device off. It is after all a mobile phone the last time I looked.

That's probably where you're going wrong. From the P800 onwards, these haven't really been mobile phones, they've been mobile devices with phone functionality. With Flight mode on, they have no phone functionality, so no there's no pedantry involved in saying the phone's off, even when your P1 is still on. It's just the truth.

Well flight mode can only be true if your in a Airplane otherwise what makes it flight mode then? I must admit i very rarely use it unless at the Dr's Surgery but with Nokia it is called Offline Mode which is perhaps an more apt description.

Well, to me flight mode is only of use when I don't want to receive a call yet still want to, erm, play with my phone. ie it's hardly used at all. The name 'flight mode' should give it away really - use on aeroplanes etc. It seems that some people in this thread refuse to switch their phones off for some reason, it's a prohibited thing in UIQ world. Well I do switch my phone OFF every night. Oh and come on, it's a phone! Yes you can do a bit of elementary web surfing if you're really pushed to get online and yes you can do a few other things of no real necessity but these devices are still 95%+ for texting and making/receiving calls at the end of the day.
