And aqualung, I respect what you have done with the open letter. But as I said, you won't have the opportunity to get both long battery life and stability, as well as a work- around for the ram. Neither does it suit anyone all that well to berate SE for not "giving" you the impossible.
But seriously, this is not worth it. If it makes you happy, believe what you want, and make up whatever "facts" you like. But I guess I can see why SE hasn't exactly jumped to the aid of the p990 users before, if this is the kind of frayed thinking that hides behind the self- righteous criticism.
@Nipsen
I never asked for long battery life

as I said the main issue for most P990's is free RAM.
You've obviously never had the pleasure of owning a P990. I dare say most P990 owners would be willing to take a knock on battery life in exchange for extra RAM.....perhaps it's better to canvas their opinion, as IO wouldn't want to be making that "fact" up.
I have not asked SE for the impossible either...perhaps another perusal of the open letter is in order ?
As ares has said, this debate has been one of the most original and reasoned we've had on esato in ages. You obviously have a good working knowledge of the subject matter and have done some ferocious debunking.
Oh, and a suggestion....words like 'bombastic' and 'arrogant' strike a rather jarring note...apart from being in this case untrue, they come across as a trifle histrionic. With all due respect there, it makes you look like you're trying just a bit too hard.....ease up on the verbal abuse OK ?

Yes, but close it and see how your free RAM goes up.

OK. I recheck N95 messaging app process size is 92K. I am viewing my inbox and I have a couple of thousands sms there. So that may accounts for the rest (i.e. task size).
So how does the poster get 3.9Mb comes about?
aqualung
I check free RAM before and after the messaging app exit on my N95. I find only 0.1Mb difference in before and after. Are you saying for UIQ3 you lose 3.9 Mb after opening & closing messaging app?

@aqualung, maybe...but for comparative purposes, this is what it got...mib claim his system says messaging uses 0,7mb with messaging, my system claims it uses 0,242mb
Anyway, i made the test you refered: i had 53,1 mb free, with messaging running. After closing messaging, the system reports 53,5. So, a 0,4mb difference...even so, not much...
It also says 80kb on the RAM stack of the app, according to swiss manager

@ares:
Maybe you want to check before and after opening your messaging app.

@ ares
check again
Using SMPro, free RAM before 62.1MB (yes it's time I changed my avatar !), after closing Messaging 65.0 MB.
Remember, stack size does not equal total memory footprint, AFAIK.
Messaging on UIQ has never had a 0.4 MB footprint. Remember the threads on my-symbian?

after open msg app and at main screen : 16.1Mb free
after opening inbox: 15.9Mb free
after opening a message: 15.6 Mb free
after exit msg app: 16.3Mb free.
