Mm. My impression is that the hype about smartphones, and the entire "exclusive", and "glorious", and "pc in your pocket"- thing.. is mellowing a little bit. Simply because the "fifteen richest CEOs around the world" market isn't big enough to really sustain sales. You can see this with the n95 very clearly, because it was sold and bought initially on that it could do anything, and that it was the perfect unit. So more people and different people than you'd expect bought it. And then the return- figures came back, and the less hysterical users have had their say. And so..

The same happens even with the iPhone - there's a demand out there that it should incorporate "business" functions. I mean - who would predict that when they started flagging the iPhone half a year ago?

Yes, perhaps 'the kids' just want something to play music/video that's loud enough to piss everybody else off

TBH, I didn't quite understand what the iPhone's target market was, concidering, what was, in my oppinion, it's huge price tag, limited initial functionality, not to mention the restriction of network choice, I mean eye-candy only goes so far when you're out and about in the real world. There can only be so many Macfetishists around after all......... (stir-stir)

Back OnTopic, at least SE attempted to target the P1 at a specific niche in the market. To me though, they seem to lack a culture of excellence in their core philosophy, and this permeates through to their products. So no, the P1 is not a bad phone, but a good one....?

First, for those who have posted that the P1 is not 3G, that is simply not true. I am posting this over a 3G connection on my P1i.

The P1 is a truly good device. The keyboard is amazing. I had my initial doubts, especially as I have large hands. But the keyboard works so well even at that!

The browser is good. I do not understand why anyone would say that it is slow. I use it extensively: banking, webhost administration, blog management, and I haven't noticed this 'slowness'.

The camera is a very good one too. Its not at the top of the list, but it certainly is not too far down.

I heartilly recomment this device for anyone looking for a QWERTY smartphone.

I have done some secret touch ups for P1i so it is not squeaky-case or plastic-feel and solid as a piece of rock. I also modified the HPM 82 plug so it fit snugly like a solid rock as well. Tell me an app better than Gdesk. GDesk is the wife of P1i.

P1i is like a portable computer for busy business personnels. It is like your girlfriend.

P1i is not clamshell so you no need to use 2 hands to make a phone call. You can drive and call at the same time (not recommended). You can also try driving and messaging at same time (kidding). If it is raining you can put it in a ziplock bag and go hiking and it is water proof this is the genius of non-clam shell.

You can surf the web and click unlike Nokia where you keep scrolling and tabbing.

Well.. on the slowness - what people are talking about is the combination of a very badly implemented IP stack, and relatively slow redraws in Opera. I think the way it works is that it downloads parts of the page, and then tries to draw it every couple of seconds or so. Which means that if you're getting a slow download, then the parser would work overtime, and the connections - unless they'd be given full priority - will typically drop out. And that would mean time- outs for every connection before something new happens - and that would be on top of sync- issues with the AP.

I've seen that on other OSs as well, so I guess it's a pretty common problem, that stable handling of lan- traffic is neglected. Not exactly unexpected that no one cares about whether things work on wifi (you know, noone gets paid a buck for every minute you're using it) - but that didn't help the ..comfortable.. pace on Opera mobile in the first place, anyway..

wow yall had a lot to say... and it agreeable that yes the keyboard is like king of qwerty keyboards cause it so easy to use and you get used to it cause i got used to it after the first day....
mines built like a rock, no squeaky parts or anything...
but there seems to be a limit of apps and games... m2 card thing is somewhat diffucult to get the plastic thing out.... i also have a problem with the wlan .. in which it doesn't connect to my home internet... which pisses me off... cause it kind defeats the purpose of opera and trackid. etc....

P1i idk if it is at par or not with the N95 since it is somewhat different on many levels... but for reason like N95 being somewhat bulky and i didnt want to follow my brother and cousin since they both have N95... lol
