Allthought, I think Ericsson will not continue on it's own, if SE breaks up.

Ericsson doesn't want to have the consumer as there market. The want to be an innovator, a developer, a networkbuilder.

The mobile platforms the make these days are not only going to SE, but also to LG and Sharp.

Sadly, I don't think we will ever see Ericsson back in the phone shops as an end-product.

I somehow doubt SE would be half as successful without the 'crappy' Sony 'sub-branding'.

As difficult as the pill is to swallow for Ericsson die-hards, the Cyber-shots and Walkmans have been the biggest and most successful products in the history of the JV.

Also, to somehow equate the current success of SE with that of Sony, as if somehow Sony is to blame for the current situation, is quite frankly a load of old bollocks. How on earth can anyone, who isn't an employee, presume to know what goes on behind closed doors and also what part of the words Joint Venture is so difficult to understand?

Both Sony and Ericsson are quite happy to suck up the millions of pounds in financial dividends from the JV so they should equally be prepared to take their fair share of the heat when things aren't so rosy. After all, thats what a JV is all about.

Was it not Ericsson who was the innovation behind new technology years ago. And Ericsson did miles better than Sony ever did with mobiles back in the day. Yes they are both most likely to blame but Ericsson are by far the better when it comes to mobile tech. Old Sony phones were pathetic.

I also don't think will make it's own mobiles if it opts out of the JV. SE is the closest fans will get to the so called "good 'ol days".

It easy to be seen as an innovator in the early days of a 'new' industry such as mobile phones but now that the industry has matured, it's a little harder me thinks.

Am with you SONY, lets screw Ericsson and release a Monster phone with all your brand stickers on it. A Cybershoot Walkman Handycam PlayStation Bravia (or Trinitron, if Possible) in 'Rolly' formfactor.

@Carkitter

Do you even think about what you are saying before you hit post? as you saying this is the biggest load of rubbish ever you can't seriously believe it can you?.

"It easy to be seen as an innovator in the early days of a 'new' industry such as mobile phones but now that the industry has matured, it's a little harder me thinks."

Are you serious there is more innovation now then there was in the early days as back then phones did so little. Now they do so much and keep on getting new features well most do, SE seem to have given up on this idea as obviously believe it's to hard and no one wants or need these progression of features which may be yet another reason why they continue to churn out just face lifted products. Whilst all around other manufacturers continue to add features and improve spec's.

well
wat if Sony want to take over the whole thing??
maybe thats wat they were planning all the time
we all know Sony mobiles never was big hit, so they used Ericsson
to get into worldwide

so now they have loyalty,
the experience, and the name..

all wat they need is to convert all these things into sony..
of course after making the company go down
so it will make it easy for them to take it..

by the way, i think Sony CEO will be kicked from Sony soon,
these days he made 2 provocative announcement,
this one, and another one about PS3
he is really good in making ppl so angry:P

coz there's no mobile from which is cheap and good
from nokia they have 3600 slide which is new and cheap
at the same price nothing from
they are way too expensive these days not like k750-k800 day's
that's one big reason why many customer decided no to buy

Carkitter is right. The industry is much more competitive. There are huge players to contend with today. Apple Inc is formidable, as are the Koreans. I'm so glad an ex Sony Corp chief has taken the reins at last. Go Dicky!

Does branding mather that much? the W800/W810 would've sold without the walkman logo, the same goes for the K800/810.

Quickshare, another brandname, originally made by SE, whats it worth today, nothing.

Look at the branding today, we see cybershot branding on phones with averedge cams, which will make the cybershot name look bad for SE and Sony.
Overbranding is bad, expanding the range of phones is good, but make sure you do it wisely, not lauchinig 3 phones that are the same but without branding, add more features then lauching a phone with less on it then the previus model.
The influence of Sony is having more and more impact on sales, for SE and Sony, in the negative way that is.
