Very interesting indeed - they'll be the second to say that these MSDs work.
Edit:
Hmmm... actually I'm not so sure.
The article on Sandisk's site could be simply saying that the P800 was one of the first to use plain old MS Duo, which indeed it was.
The article can be read both ways.

I hope P800 can use PRO-DUO too (yeah, can't wait to hold 1 GB songs!

, but......
>but i KNOW for sure that no company make 2 seperate readers they are
>not stupid in SE or any other company AND the pro version is not so
>new pro vers exist before p800 and if its not a firmware update then
>they must be crazy and make 2 seperate readers for their mem cards
>its common sence !!!!
Sony did make 2 separate readers for their mem cards, the one I'm using right now, the MSAC-US1, is NOT pro compatible, nor it can be upgraded by any firmware, it's the hardware limitation that does not allow it to read the PRO stick, only the new MSAC-US70 can read the PRO stick.
This is the same to the old SONY Clie palm/camera and anything else that use the old MS hardware. So in that case, since P800 finally decided to include the MS-DUO 1 1/2 years ago, I really really really don't think that it used the "new" PRO hardware. (some of the old sony clie/camera that's out 1 1/2 years ago can't use PRO at all, you guess.)
and please don't say that "all the companies have plans they know what to do next its cost free to make a reader able to read the 2 formats ,they dont make 2 readers when one is enough". NO, SONY made a BIG mess last year by finally admitted that their MS can't go over 128mb, and need to switch to a new hardware design to use the PRO. All their old machines that use the old MS hardware can't use the new PRO stick.

Its not a hardware problem!!!!
its a software problem!
yes your reader wont support the pro because you can not upgrade the firmware of it!
sony clearly stated on the website on the relase of the new pro format.
that all new devices will support the new pro format and existing products that can support a patch will be available for those products.
some products such as tv, car stereo, card reader, etc wont be able to have firmware upgrades.!

daihung If i understand well you speak for the old format and not the duo.And if sony make this mistake why you thing they continue to make a mistake with the new DUO format?
>So in that case, since P800 finally decided to include the MS-DUO one 1/2 years ago, I really really really don't think that it used the "new" PRO hardware.>
Yes maybe the p800 dicided to to include as you say The MS DUO format 1/2 year ago but in the release of the product sony is able to put the new reader why not? they dont release the p800 1/2 year ago for you to say this!!And if sony addmited the mess they cause its good news to us because in this new format they sure dont want to make the same mess

Just found this on
Sony's Memorystick website...
In small print at the bottom of the page...
"Certain selected products in selected categories will be able to accept Memory Stick PRO media by firmware or software upgraded. (compatible with high capacity only)"
This could mean one of a few things... It's certainly possible, but it may depend on a firmware update which is or isn't going to appear, however for all we know it could have been included in R2F or whatever the latest is... although the fact that large pros don't work in the jacket may suggest not.
Another Edit...
The "compatible with high capacity only" means that whilst it's possible to upgrade the firmware for the Pro to work, it's not possible to get the speed of the Pro. This is because the Pro can operate on Serial AND Parallel modes (original was only serial). This is what makes the Pro media hardware backward compatible.
Obviously older drives, e.g. the P800's MS Duo reader can only operate in Serial mode.
IMHO, it is likely that it could read Pros in the future, as the P800 is something that's fairly easily upgradable. SE might take their time about it however!

Im kinda interested in gettin myself a memory stick jacket for my p800, but i was wondering if its generally worth it.
Other than the fact that u can use normal cheaper memory sticks, are thee any other advantages?
primarilly, can u use a two memort sticks at the same time if u have the jacket? ie: one duo and one normal (or duo with adapter)?
if this is the case, im seriously thinkin of buying one...
Cheers
