I've been with every UK network except Vodaphone and I've always found Orange to be best overall. I've had less problens with tem than anyone else. Good service and good value.

Orange is still the best UK network by a long way, even though they have tightened up their charging recently.

Selling a phone, then reporting stolen is common- especially on ebay, so always be advised that when buying a phone, ask the seller to sign a decleration stating he is selling you the phone, giving the IMEI number and the network connected to.
If he refuses, pull out of the purchase! If it's on ebay then whats the worst he is gonna do? leave bad feedback! In which case you respond to the feedback stating that the seller would not provide adequate protection that this was a legitimate sale and refused to sign a document stating he was selling the phone.
On another note - I once found an Orange phone that, on further investigation had been reported stolen. I phoned orange stating the IMEI number and, because the owner had got another phone under their insurance, they said I could keep it and they removed the stolen notification - the only downside is I did have to pay them to unlock the phone, but thats before i could do it myself - that may be worth a try if you phone up and explain the cercumstances!

I don't believe a word of this story. You bought a phone from a bloke in a pub then after 4 months it was blacklisted. Then you speak to the guys brother who gets it unblocked for you. For a fact, as soon as a phone as been placed on the blacklist database thats it, it can't be removed. If the contract was his brothers, then legally He's in deep shit for pretending that He's his brother.

@Deanlambert
I had a phone that was black listed, rang up my friend, he reflashed it or something.
Now it works perfectly, apart from 1 small thing. I keep getting phone calls from people I don’t know and not my number. It’s like there’s some kind of cross wire or something.
Any ideas?

You now have what people would call an illegal phone. Hope you don't get caught, in the uk it's called obtaining services by deception. Carries a maximum 15 years. I'd by a new phone mate.

Well y would I lie about something like that? To be honest, though, I thought it was wierd also. But apparently when the contract was ended Orange put a bar on the phone (it was put on the blacklist). I dont kno why. And for some reason this mustve been a mistake coz they took it back off. It doesnt make much sense to me either. I tried all the diff network's SIMs in the phone but none of them would work. But all I can tell u is that when I phoned vodafone to ask them what the problem was they said they my phone has now been blacklisted. So naturally, I phoned the guy I bought th phone off being very Pi$$ed off n all. He wasnt there so I spoke to his brother. I explained the story and within an hour he phoned me back and said "I just spoke to orange and they said the phone should work fine now". I took his word for it but the phone still didnt work with my SIM. However, when i then tried an Orange SIM, and then an O2 SIM in the phone they both worked fine. Also when I phoned up vodafone they also confirmed that the fone was no longer on the blacklist!
So the phone was on the blacklist - then it was taken off. I was told this by vodafone. I'm not makin it up. Though I understand your doubt as it seems an unlikely situation - I totally agree with u. As soon as I heard the phone was blacklisted I honestly thought that was the end of my P800 (thus asking about selling it, changing the IMEI etc etc) - but evidently not.
