@Aggamemnon

If you haven't yet got a P800 then yes definately get a P900 as a smartphone. However, I would say get it when the price drops and since thats sometime next year by then we will be on the verge of the new handset being released so there is no real point. I reckon get a P900 if its a reasonable price / get a P800 because they are cheaper nowadays / or hold out for the next smartphone, with hopefully ground breaking improvements and in the meantime get yourself a T610 or Z600 or something

Out of all the educated people on this forum only MMSMAN got my point... Which is to say, "playing around with a phone for a couple minutes" is NOT enough to qualify you to have an expert opinion on it. That's why I called him a wanker.
And no, I'm not a "little kiddie". So get off your high horse and smell the $hit under your shoes.

Is the P900 worth it? Depends. Many people here say that the P900 is NOT worthwhile if you already own a P800. This could definately be true. Personally, I feel that the styling of the P900 will attract many people who were turned off by the P800's original candy colors.

Is the P900 worth it to me? Let's see now... Some gripes about the P800:
- Only 4096 colors, and then there's a blue tint
- Lack of T9 (minor gripe, I love the handwriting recognition)
- Can't use MP3's as ringtones (WAV works great, but I have a lot of stuff on my phone and want to control disk space)
- Doesn't look professional (mostly corrected with the Mineral Gray release)
- Feels like a flimsy construction (especially the flip).
- Lack of themes

Those were my main gripes. And the P900 corrected all those beautifully. That's why I already sold my P800, to make money for a switch to a P900.

I honor your reasons for swithing to the P900. And I will not even say bad things about your choice. But the points you indicated aren't really my priorities so they don't convince me to buy one. I guess everybody's got their own opinion. But If i have money to burn, I'd definitely get the P900. But because of scarcity, I have to perform cost-benefit analysis (using my personal standards and needs) to rationalize getting a P900. At this point I won't.

I don't get it why the P900 or even the P800 cannot play Flash?
The upcoming Nokia 7700 (yeah the ugly one) uses Opera 6.0+ with Flash player. We now have Opera 6.0+ for the P800... so what's the problem here? Idea that Flash is exclusive to Nokia really sucks!
*** Anyway, I don't care because I don't surf the net, get video streaming, and even read email using the P800 because it really costs a lot in my country. Using the PC is still more affordable.

Everyone here has their own valid reasons for their comments on the P900.

Here's mine.

I agree it is important to take innovation to the next level when it comes to keeping ahead of the competition. I also agree that it is important not to waste money on minor and inconsequential upgrades.

The thing about these new product launches, I believe, we have missed the point. From SE's perspective, it's not about getting existing users to upgrade and earn more money (though it would be nice to do so). It's a time issue and releasing updated models of existing models.

When P800 came, it was the most full featured PDA/phone in the market, no one else came close. People bought.
Now it's almost a year since P800 was launched and they have released P900. Why? Simple, P800 is aging and already possible contenders to the throne are popping out. With time, new improvements are added and hence an upgraded version of P800 was born. Did SE tell existing P800 users to buy the P900? No. What SE has done, is to release a newer (slightly better) version of the P900, to cater to new buyers (just like you guys who first got the P800 when it was launched). Also for those who felt the P800 was lacking, it's a 2nd chance for SE to get these users to try the improved model.

This is the same thing done for the T68 to T68i to T610. As time goes by, little new innovations or improvements are added to make their products better and to keep up with competition.

Take the T630, it's a T610 upgrade and catered to different segments. Unlike some company, SE launches new upgrades everytime on top of multiple design for each series. So every new product from SE is a step up from the last one. When it's time for earlier users of the P800 to upgrade, perhaps SE has a new device that was slowly upgraded along the way, making it a big leap in innovation for earlier users.

Do you have to buy them all? No. Unless you're a phone lover and collector, just get what suits you and the best available at the time.

That's where SE truly gives value to it's customers.

@ Rashkae

I do get your point about not being able to form a complete analysis of any phone after only a few minutes, but that hardly justifies calling someone 'a wanker' for stating his opinion.

If it helps, people buy stuff for logical and emotional reasons. I have had my P800 for 4 months but I have already ordered the P900 as I find it difficult to use the mechnical P800 key pad (I also like the idea of 65k colours). But I also like to use the latest products and I think the P900 looks more suitable for professional business people. There - a mixture of logic and emotion.

However, I wish SE would get that WiFi Duo card developed soon - unless they intend to release the P1000 with WiFi in 6/9 months time!

Quick reply to the "Flash" issue: SE or Opera have to pay Macromedia to create a Flash player for the browser. SE may have thought that the bandwidth required by Flash is counter-intuitive to GPRS, or maybe Opera decided that since their browser for the P800/P900 is free, and they charge money for the Nokia one, then they can offset the license fees to Macromedia with the cost of the browser.

Having used both P800 and P900, I would say the latter is a better phone, but don't bother upgrading, especially at the massive prices being quoted at the moment. In comparison;

Plus Points
MP3 Ringtones are brilliant!!! I love this feature.....it really surprises people when they hear it! Can't see why the P800 didn't have it.
Proper Flip - makes it usable unlike the P800.
Better Screen Resolution
Improved camera
Video Recoder - not really much cop anyway

Minus Points
Screen is alot less bright - very hard to see in sunlight
Can't stir the tea with the stylus like the P800

Looks wise - I think I preferred the P800. Can't say I notice huge difference in radio, battery etc and s/w is virtually identical- P800 apps seem to work fine.

So I wouldn't upgrade, but I would recomend the P900 - as long as the price isn't massively higher than the P800.
