they've already invested money into SE thats gone, both company's will lose money.
well ericsson had the Pxxx phone ready for a very long time. then because of SE they redesigned it twice again. but only on desing and MSD instead of MMC.
ericsson was on a go with there new phones T68 was a hit. T66 also but limited to get hands on. T65 sold very good actually.
R520 was nothing, but it actually was more advanced then some phones today. T39 was selling good 2. R600 junk but it sold.
but we could al see one straight line in there designs, which remaind always good.

@ Sammy_boy
Well I do have a pair of Ericsson trousers. They look quite good with a rather plain design. Beyond that I do even have Laptop computer case from///

As far as I know Nokia once started with rubber boots, wheels and stuff like that

Besides,
I would prefer the ericsson phones, the Sony design didn't really do it for me. But I have to admit that the SE phones nowerdays look better then what /// or Sony phones ever have done.

SE is a good design mix

Actually, /// has still leader position position in different areas of communication and other technologies. Its a result too. But the mobile business is the most counting one, therefore i am a bit dissapointed. This message was posted from a R520

ericsson would die.

i am sorry but ericsson had great phones but they didn't have that little 'thing' that would catch the public. sure we all know the specs that 2/3rds of se phones are ericsson but people in a phone shop will just see a phone, small, good looking, good features and buy it.

for me - i think it would be either. because they have both learnt from each other. ericsson would know how to market, and sony would know how to produce good phones. but ericsson would probably go bust without sony (i aint dissin ericsson but it is a fact).

but they wont split up.
but please people just because the actual technology may be ericsson the marketing, design, MONEY, QUALITY are due to sony.

remember - thats why sony are good. they have a hold of the electronical market and are slowly gaining more and more wealth by the minute. why? not because they are liars but because theyare quality. no matter what you say those stupid little antennas on ericsson were unreliable but sony build things to quality.

but together they are

forever

marketing. No doubt about it. they had the tech knowledge but they had no clue how to sell their product to the masses.

There is also the possibility they didn't know how to carefully spend their money.... in any case they spent more than they earned.
