methylated_spirit pretty much hit the nail on the head. They are seperate countries, they just all have to put up with the royals.
Personally, i hate the whole idea of a royal family.. what makes them royal compared to everybody else ?
The queen does have power though. In fact, she is above the law. Look at the Paul Burrel case. He was going to do time for theft, until the last minute the queen herself stepped in and said ' case closed '.
I mean come on, what the ***k !?

To be honest i dont care, the burrel case had no effect on my life and i've got enough of my own problems to worry about. Im sure the queen doesnt care if i ran out of cash to pay my phone bill this month.

Whilst the fact that the burrel case has no direct effect on us is apparent. What does matter is the implications it has on the rule of law. Why should anyone be above the law?

What worries me more than Queenie stopping the case at the last minute is that she *could* have stopped it before it cost us taxpayers thousands... she, and other "royals" effectively withheld evidence from what I understand of it.

I was born in Britain I am British and all this crap of separate countries in the UK is bollocks.
If England, NI, Scotland & Wales are separate where is the border control? the same people who parrot on about England this and Scotland that are probably descendents of the idiots who used to say "I am not giving fealty to a king of England what's wrong with Mercia? we don't need no stinking Single England"
I can't wait for their to be a World Gvt. then we can have one football team (but who would they play?)

The countries of England, Wales and Scotland form Great Britain (GB).
Great Britain + Norhern Ireland form United Kingdom (UK).
Simple as that.

Wales is not a country; it's a Principality. Northern Ireland is not a country; it's a Province. But I get your point - Scotland is not England (seperate education and legal systems for a start) and they'r both part of GB and the UK. Simple, huh?
