well i don't know, i'm a little sceptic about this, feedback? what feedback? you don't have any testers, se sw centre develops and tests new firmwares how could you get any feedback? and k700 was released i guess a month back that isn't enough? it was released a week a go here and they had the new fw at the offical se service point from the begining.....
i could understand if branded phones couldn't upgrade but un-branded?
oh and who ever stated that if you clever you buy a phone 5 months after the release, well in my opinion clever people read reviews and test the phone before buying not just waintg and hoping that things will get better....
edit: oh and as far as i know se r&d centre isn't based in london.....

If you ask a service center to put in a unbranded firmware, wouldn't that fix so I can remove the protected pictures for example?
Or, you can't upgrade branded firmware?
If I unlock my K700i the ordinary way via my operator I would demand to have the pictures removed too!
Could they fix it?
If this can't be done, there should be two different firmwares and one of them can't in any way be touched?

Not sure if this was answered by ben or if it was elsewhere on this board, but what does the alphanumeric naming on the phones mean? Why the classification to the T610/616/637 and the K700/500 and Z600/1010/500/200, etc.
Also, with the growing popularity of SE phones in the US, are we going to see more upcoming phones that will accomodate the 850mhz band that will cater to the north american market?

What i have been told regarding the newer firmware on all
models though... is that it has some sort of built-in 'signature' with which it will only accept firmware upgrades with the same 'signature'. That means branded fw will only accept branded updates in simple terms.
What I
cannot understand myself though... is that for T610 fw for example, the branded (vodafone) versions are labelled EU6 and EU7 (if I'm not mistaken) and the other versions (EU1 through EU5) are versions
with different language packs. So Ben, here's my question for you: are firmwares for all future
ui phones built in the same way, and if so, does the new 'signature' firmware automatically mean that if I were to buy a phone with say Spanish language pack, that I can not have it flashed here with a firmware including Dutch language pack? Because if that is what it means....
SE have made a mistake! It would be very user-unfriendly.
Apart from that I have another question, to do with the nature of your 'question desk' here in this thread: is this doen with the approval of your employer? And if not, what is the risk of your doing it anyway? (to illustrate my reasoning behind this last question: I am, by contract, obliged to
not make any public statements of the reasoning and the procedures and the plans of the company I work for. If there are any statements to be made, they will be made by an official comapny press channel. If I were to start a thread like this one on my field of work and my employer would find out:
I would be fired on the spot. I would have thought that a company like
, which is much more vulnerable to industrial espionage than my employer is, would have even stricter policies in this respect. And i would also imagine that
employees would know better than to mess around.)

I can ask you a question which does not brake confidentiality rules, like: what were the most used brand of PC before the recent Upgrade to HP ? I guess an outsider woundn't know this.
