Yeah... Panther is going to happen.... finally got something that Jaguar won't run- soft phone.
Dunno though- has anybody else tried running Panther on a 500Mhz G3? RAM has been maxed to 640MB but I'm worried the ole G3 won't be able to hack it.
In other news I've sync my P800 to iCal and Address Book regularly through bluetooth- much more reliable and stable than the old Treo with its USB connection- and (big mistake) published the result online.
So now the g/f knows exactly what I'm up to.
Sheesh.... on the one hand it's great to see good technology working well together but now...... she knows every move I make and is getting in the habit of booking time with me. I'd get sms' saying "I know you're free Friday night- we're doing this from xpm to ypm. Put it in your diary"
And if I don't do it I'll get a "reminder" sms.
Arrrgh.,..... I've created a monster!!!!

Hey DIRAVIdude,
I just took the plunge and bought a new 15 inch PowerBook G4 with the new proc. In a word. I love it. Faster than my old (six months) G4 12 inch. I can not for the life of me see why anyone would want to stay with a Windoze based PC. iSync is as stable as ever. I even got it to work with my s700 and k700. Did I mention that I love my Mac.
Cheers mate.

Hi sapporobaby
Actually I can feel a new Mac on the cards- the iBook is beginning to feel a little slow when running MSOffice- something I've finally not been able to avoid. Been using Appleworks all this while and I've never felt the need to go MSOffice.
I dunno... maybe the file permissions are all screwy again- will try fixiing em first and if the iBook speeds up again then it'lll live to fight another day.
Just WHEN will be outgrow this iBook? Goin on 4 years now and it still does everything I want it to do. I find myself hoping it's hitting its limits so that I FINALLY have an excuse to go buy something newer.
Not bad for a 500Mhx G3 eh?
In other news the P800-iBook-.mac sync goes on unabated. I REALLy regret publishing that calendar now. Especially since my partner's got a hold of it so now there 2 people booking time for me.
Sheesh... when technology bites you in the arse- we could start a new reality tv show.

i'd just like to add my $0.02:
use iCal and adress book.
i got my powerbook, tried the on-board apps, and thought i'd need to get outlook for my mac, i.e. entourage.
after a while, i realized i don't like the way it works.
mac mail is just so simple, yet powerful. after a few weeks, the "is junkmail" option works perfectly, no important mail gets filtered out, but 90% of the junk is removed.
iSync is a little unstable. i can sync my p900 only occasionally, i suspect there might be a problem with iCal. contacts are no problem (you can activate what you'd like to sync in iSync), but after a successful contacts sync, the subsequent calendar sync fails.
"device not found" or something else.
but despite this quirk, i'll never go back to a windows system, not go back to entourage, and not go to palm, ever. my p900 is here to stay !

Hello Fellow Mac-Heads, DIR and Mores,
I use Entourage and a product called GoBetween to sync iCal, Iaddress book and the others. I like Entourage better than Mail. Also Mail does not support digital certifacates and I use these to send and verify mails that I send. However, I will never ever go back to Windoze. It still amazes me that people flock to Windoze. Sort of like electing Bush when you know how truly screwed up he is.

haha
yes, mail has a few drawbacks.
i regularly get complaints from friends when i forward html mails.
all elements are somehow extracted and sent as attachments to a txt mail.
then i can't embed active-x components; i'd like to send flash movies sometimes, embedded inside an html mail. works with outlook, not with mail.
oh, and when a windows user copy-pastes an image into an html mail, i get a bitmap attachment, 2-4mb in size, but can't open it.
oh, and stuffit won't let me compress files to ZIP, so i need to send people instructions on how to open SIT archives.
maybe i should dish out the 49 bucks for dropstuff standard
i'm not an OS religious fanatic, i can work with both, and i can see some advantages in XP, and some in osX, but i chose to use my powerbook as main computer.
i like the style, i like F9, F10 and F11 in panther, i like the way contacts and ical are embedded throughout the entire OS, i like the way "dialer.exe" files are saved to my desktop and just die there silently, i like it when screensaver.url.pif files are just ignored in mac mail, and i am content with the way safari handles popups and death-scripts that usually kill my windows box.
macs are great, i would reccomend them to anyone who wants to have a machine that works, and will work without problems for more than 6 months without the need for reinstallments and format c: operations.
but i tell every mac-interested person that they won't be able to use their windows warez, their screensavers, their diddl-mouse-cursor-replacements and that they won't be able to fiddle with their system like they're used to.
on the other hand, if i have the choice between software from an independant label and a version from microsoft, i'd go with the microsoft program since their useability is unsurpassed. they do make good software. and good operating systems. the reason why winXP is so insecure is because 99% of the planet is using windows, and hackers and virus programmers will be more likely to succeed in breaking into computers and spreading their virii in the windows world than *nix or mac world.
this is basically a "i love osX" and not a "osX is better than anything else muhahahaha" post.

If you want to do this, then "redirect" the message in Mail, not "forward" it. Entourage also messes up HTML e-mails when forwarded.

Hey Jools,
Any word on the official release date of Tiger? I took the plunge and went out and bought another Mac. 15 inch PowerBook. This seems to be about the right size. The 17 was too big, while the 12 incher I have was too small. Also, I love the backlit keys. Apple is simply too cool.
