In my opinion the merger didn't meet the hopes I put in it. SonyEricsson is doing nice phones, no doubt about it. But all the hopes of SonyEricsson phones entering Sony's world weren't met.
I am talking about music, movies, computer interaction (took sony some years before putting bluetooth on their notebooks).
I still have a hard time understanding why SonyEricsson teamed up with Vodafone...
Vodafone Live! delievers its content to SonyEricsson phones.
What if SonyEricsson would have teamed up with a smaller network? They could have sold Sony products to SonyEricsson phones! Just a thought...
Sony is a giant in electronics, but I have seen very little from this on the SonyEricsson phones, particularly in regards to the content.
I just think that strategically SE is looking at short time profits, teaming up with Vodafone, but could have had much more influence (and hence revenue) by teaming up with a smaller operator (or several smaller operators) and delievering its content.
Don't believe it? Just sit and watch what will happen with Windows working together with Orange. Windows has much more influence upon Orange that SE does upon Vodafone.
This might seem off topic, but I was just trying to make a point about the fact that the merger didn't meet my hopes.

I think you are missing a very important point; time. Sony and Ericsson only merged a few years ago, integrating their designs, resources and aims takes time. I think we are now starting to see true 'SE products' as opposed to Sony or Ericsson products; mobiles like the K700 and the S700 are good examples.
As far as Vodafone are concerned, I read recently (on Esato I believe) that Vodafone had given certain manufacturers an ultimatum, if this is the case then it might explain why SE decided to partner with Vodafone. There is also the case to be made that Vodafone are the world's biggest network and as such are abale to provide SE with a huge market for their products. If SE had partnered with, for example, Orange, then it would have meant that they would have had to have formed seperate partnerships with networks all over the world, rather than a single network.
SE are only now starting to find their feet and I expect we shall see a lot more innovation and excellence from them in the years ahead.

Like you say, Sony has so much to offer, especially content-wise and I don't believe for one minute they are not going to make this available to it's customers as soon as the network permits. Just think for one minute the music and film catalogue Sony owns. I can't see SE not using that to it's advantage. It would just be rude not to..

Looks like the replacement for the P9 series wil be with us sooner than we think. @Boba I love Ericsson as much As I love Sony. Can you ever accept Sony as a viable partner for Ericsson?

@golden i never liked sony or any othe asian brands. I prefer european design and techn, donnow if se would ever fit my expectations. However i was almost satisfied with my t630. Aslong my /// fones fit my needs, i dont make thoughts of other brands. I am actually interested to have a neonode.
