ricsson Press Releases
Ericsson unveils world's first Cordless Internet Radio

Date: Wednesday, March 21 2001

The Ericsson Cordless Internet Radio H100 is the first cordless device
of its kind and represents a revolutionary step in bringing Internet
audio content wirelessly into the home. Utilizing Bluetoothtm
technology, the Cordless Internet Radio allows access to thousands of
Internet radio stations without the use of a computer. Ericsson and The
MTVi Group have entered into a joint development partnership to bring
unique interactive content and services to the consumer.

Shortcut buttons on the radio let users browse, select stations, and
save favorites. Users can also create their own music archive and access
sound files from the Internet or from a computer. Built-in stereo
speakers offer superb integrated sound quality, while the product can
also be used with headphones or an in-home stereo system.

The Cordless Internet Radio is battery powered and can be placed
anywhere in the home, up to 100 meters from a Bluetooth access point
that has broadband Internet connection. The Internet Radio can also be
connected via an Ethernet cable to a broadband modem.

"Bringing the variety and depth of the Internet into the home through
simple, easy-to-use products is a crucial part of Ericsson's strategy,"
said Lars Lindberg, Vice President and General Manager, Ericsson Home
Communications. "Increasingly, the way we connect to the Internet in the
home will not just be from a computer but from a range of small to
medium sized products."

Sleekly designed, the Internet Radio also features a clock that wakes
the user with an alarm signal, a selected radio station or a specific
sound file.

Multimedia partnership
Ericsson Cordless Internet Radio is a result of a joint cooperation
between Ericsson and The MTVi Group. The companies will explore
strategic partnership opportunities regarding marketing, co-branding,
distribution and sales of the product.

"The Cordless Internet Radio will provide yet another way for listeners
to tune into MTVi's global entertainment content," said Damian Manning,
Vice President, Digital Media, The MTVi Group.

Ericsson's initiative with the MTVi Group is demonstrative of its
ongoing commitment to entertainment technology. Ericsson is dedicated to
combining its world-leading products with the most compelling,
innovative content and applications to create the next generation of
home communications services.

The Cordless Internet Radio will become available toward the end of this
year in the US and shortly after in Europe.

Ericsson is the leading communications supplier, combining innovation in
mobility and Internet in creating the new era of mobile Internet.
Ericsson provides total solutions covering everything from systems and
applications to mobile phones and other communications tools. With more
than 100,000 employees in 140 countries, Ericsson simplifies
communications for customers all over the world.

Ericsson & RMIT 3G Concept Terminals

Students rise to Ericsson’s 3G design challenge
date: January 16, 2002

Ericsson awarded industrial design students from RMIT University for their cutting edge third generation (3G) device designs in a competition conducted by Ericsson Australia.

In February 2001, Ericsson presented a challenge to third-year RMIT students to design and develop a model 3G concept terminal and interface.

Ericsson judged the RMIT 3G concept terminals and interfaces on innovation, communication, knowledge, viability and practicality of design. Three individual awards were given in the category of Best Concept Terminal and one team award was given in the category of Best Concept Interface.

RMIT student Mark Ambrosini was awarded one of the three best concept terminals. Mark’s design was in the shape of a sunglass case, with changeable leather covers. According to Mark, the portable device is aimed at the user who demands mobility and ease of use.

RMIT student Andrew Mok won a concept terminal award with his Bronze colour terminal that has a plug-in camera and headset.

Twenty year-old Nicholas Andrew’s design was also awarded one of the best concept terminals with his two additional credit card size plug-in screens and an interface that has been designed to improve usability for the visually impaired.

The team award went to RMIT students Mark Ambrosini, Andrew Mok, Claire Day, Guy Blashki, Linda Honl and Marija Zika. The team designed a ‘zone’ concept, which allowed for the smart terminal to adjust accordingly to various zones such as a community zone, a loud zone and a quiet zone. The interface also considered the habits of the user with icons that change in size depending on frequency of usage.

Mr. Karl Sundstrom, Managing Director, Ericsson Australia said, “It’s inspiring to see how the students perceive the future of 3G devices through these exciting and original designs. I commend their imagination and commitment to innovation.

“3G is around the corner and we look forward to 2002 as we bring it to market, utilizing Ericsson’s research and development from the past 15 years of work.”

The winning 3G concept terminals will be on display at Ericsson’s office in Melbourne. Ericsson will present the concept terminals to the Sony Ericsson design team headquartered in Sweden.
