Here is what I do:

1. Start FC
2. Select the root of the directory. I chose from the left hand side of Finder that lists the phone drive.
3. Select this entire director which will also select the subdirectories as well.
4. Tell FC to start. When done, press eject and it will give you are report and eject your phone.

If you have a chat client, you can PM me your username and we can go through it step by step. It will work for sure.

No worries.

I will provide step by step instructions:

1. While your phone is connected to your Mac start FinderCleaner 1.4
2. It will open up a "Choose a Folder" dialog box where you can choose a folder to clean.
3. Select "Untitled" (mine says Untitled. yours might be something different)
4. When you select Untitled, select the entire directory and none of the sub-diretories on the right.
5. Click "Choose".
6. It will take about 5 seconds and then you will have the option to either Quit or Eject.

To disconnect and eject the drive, naturally select Eject. However, if you choose Quit, and leave the phone connected, it will still put the ._file back on your phone if you access finder.

Hope this helps but FinderCleaner works great.

Thank you.

Steps 1 to 5 are spot on and I've followed those instructions exactly

...but, once I've done that, nothing else happens. there's no option to eject or anything. it just does nothing. if i click on the FinderCleaner icon again, i just get a spinning cursor.

Have tried it so many times! I must be doing something wrong

I can't get Finder Cleaner to work for me either - I get the spinning cursor. So I use "DS_Store Cleaner" instead.

Just drag the folder/disk you want to have cleaned onto the apps icon. DS_Store Cleaner will launch and automatically clean the folder and any sub folders. When it is finished, you will see an alert box which tells you how many .DS_Store files have been deleted.

Cheers Jools,

...after you've done that, how do you 'eject' the phone without the files being created again?

Strange.

FinderCleaner works the best for me.

Just drag it to the Trash. As long as you don't access the device through the Finder after cleaning (i.e. open windows, copy files etc.) the nasty .ds_store files won't be added again!
