people also knew a long time ago that smoking was bad for you (1964).... people have known it causes cancer for a long time too e.g.
'Smoking is an addiction. Tobacco contains nicotine, a drug that is addictive. The nicotine, therefore, makes it very difficult (although not impossible) to quit. In fact, since the U.S. Surgeon General's 1964 report on the dangers of smoking, millions of Americans have quit. Still, more than 430,000 deaths occur in the U.S. each year from smoking-related illnesses. The reason for these deaths is that smoking greatly increases the risk of getting lung cancer, heart attack, chronic lung disease, stroke, and many other cancers. Moreover, smoking is perhaps the most preventable cause of breathing (respiratory) diseases within the USA. '

So its taking the gov over 40 years to do something, in my opinion i think there is a case (not that i agree that people should do that)... just saying i can see people doing it... i mean look at the macdonalds situation.... they got sued....
At the end of the day, if you smoke you know the risks! all i wanted to say is that people shouldnt be forced to breath in other peoples smoke... therefore i agree with batsie in that an out right ban is over the top, but simply providing areas to smoke would be sufficient..

Look at it this way. If one person smokes, it puts ten people off. If ten people don't smoke, does it interrupt the one smoker's quality of life?

exactly, and theyve gone and banned it outright.
it feels like a basic freedom has been removed.

The BBC has been interviewing people, Heres a quote....
Anne Power, 68, Norwich
I don't agree with the ban, although I am an ex-smoker and stopped six years ago and I'm glad of it, and my husband died of lung cancer.
But I am concerned at the taking away of our freedom and liberty.
Fair enough quote baring in mind what she's been through.

our tax system is aweful! to say a lot comes from cigarettes is ok but its a very little majority.... If you look at almost everything you buy in teh uk its taxed,...... you get taxed coz you earn more... you get taxed more coz you got two jobs...... you get taxed on your tax (yeah - its true, when i was a student i got taxed when i werent suppost too.... took 6months to get it back in which the idoits taxed me on the tax i got given back).....
Bringing the tax into this is just gonna open a big ass can of worms
I really dont think it will affect us (taxwise) as much as people are worrying about
