yeah, i can see what you're saying in that walkman did pressurise the other manufacturers to step up a gear. but now that walkman has been superseded by samsung, nokia, and motorola, they need to consider something new, if not for the near future.
i mean, all the walkman candybars look virtually identical, differing only in the shape of their keys and slight difference in the call/end/direction key area.
when one sees a whole row of SE's in the shops they look all the same. one has to look closer to see any difference. none of them seem unique in an attractive way.

SE has dominated the music phone market otherwise why would Samsung start pushing music phones and why did Nokia create Expressmusic? It was purely in reaction to SE's

success. Any music-phone maker would love to emulate the success of Walkman phones.
Totally agree
Anyway, Walkman phones are the best-selling music phones, and will stay that way from a long time. Top music quality or not, 99% of people would buy a Walkman phone instead of a RORK or Xpress to music

that's marketing for yer. in the same way that the u600 is one of the top sellers in the UK.
being a top seller doesn't make something good. one only has to look at the microsoft vista to see that.

Hi all
Well i actually think the most interesting quote for me is
"SE has dominated the music phone market"
That being the past tense as in my experience of testing various SE Walkman phone W950 and the W880 neither where as good at producing a good quality sound stage with plenty of volume as either my N93 or N95. In fact even my E61 gives better results except for a pretty UI and Album Art neither of which i consider to be important over quality of sound IMHO.
