Hopefully SE and Wayfinder will work out how to get everything playing nicely together. If anyone gets it to work, please post here.
I've been trying for some time now and the Wayfinder app does not work at all. I get the same result as you (this is HGE-100 with a K850i). I can give it a try with my T650i, but I think I will get the same result (as the apps are in Java).
Hopefully Nav4all or AmazeGPS will get HGE-100 support soon.

The regular wayfinder software certainly won't work because it only looks for bluetooth GPS devices. (I tried it). The version that is supposed to work with the HGE-100 can be downloaded here (via your phone):
http://sehge100.getwf.com
Well, you can also download it straight from the browser:

when I bought my HGE 3 weeks ago, there were 4 apps to download, next day only 3 and then only 2
, but earth gps is the same as mgmaps and navigator is the same as nav4all. but in the nav4all it works only 60s and then it lost gps signal. maybe someone can tell why.
for offline is very good trekbuddy.

Can't use mine at the moment as K850 has been returned to be fixed. In the mean time if anyone knows of an app that runs with this and shows your location in OSGB format (for use with Ordnance Survey maps) rather than Lat/Lon I'd be very grateful for the info.

The free applications (Tracker & GPS Location can also be downloaded from:

Tracker and GPS Location seems to work well with HGE-100.

I'm considering getting this for my K800i and K600i. Would this work in the US more specifically Florida?

OK so I tried again on Monday 12th. When you plug the HGE-100 into a K850i there's a new version of the Wayfinder software to download that more or less works with the phone. It looks to me like Sony Ericsson and Wayfinder are still working out compatibility issues because there was some more software available for a bit that disappeared from the download site again.
Anyway, I have actually seen a map on my K850i, and I have even had it plan a route and know roughly where I am. It's still very buggy - the menu options leap about for no reason at all; a map will work sometimes and not at other times. The whole thing is slow, clunky, flaky, and imprecise.
Even when it's working, there are lots of irritating bugs. Using the 'pedestrian' setting still recommends that you to obey one-way traffic systems, and even though I have downloaded maps I'm not totally sure that the program isn't downloading an entire map of London every time I use it. The wait to get a map suggests that this might be the case, and I'm half-expecting a nasty bill this month as a result. It can take ages to calculate a route - longer in some tests than the route would take to walk.
On the whole I'd say that the HGE-100 doesn't get beyond being a stupid toy/expensive demo. The wired device is uncomfortable to wear. I personally don't like the headphones. The GPS seems to only really work when the HGE-100 is visibly pinned on the outside of your clothing, and I find this unacceptably un-cool - I'm a geek, not a nerd. You will often arrive at your destination before the software has worked out where you're starting from.
Essentially I'm saying that now that it's sort of working, I'm paradoxically more frustrated with the thing than when it wasn't working at all. I'll probably use it when I'm visiting friends at a new address, but it's going to spend a lot of time taunting me for my insatiable gadget-lust from inside a drawer for most of the time.
If you're reading this and considering getting an HGE-100 to use with your K850, I would strongly advise you against it.
