sadly, in these technological times, your phone Iand mine) are obsolete fairly quickly but...

as has already been said in this topic, it is highly unlikely that Sony will ignore previous obligations as that will also cause negative press and reduced future take-up of their products.
It simply would not make business sense and is certainly not something that is experienced in other companies in this situation.

Thanks. I just don't like another phone which is new but dead inside like my old G900(UIQ)

My all time favorite was the P900. I still have my P1i as a backup and used it last month for my two week trip in Europe.
I am looking forward to see what Sony has in store for us on the mobile phone front.

Since they design, build and supply the main components in house, i'm pretty sure it'll be quick, the only thing that will delay them will be software optimization, but given SE's current track record this year it won't be too difficult for them to push things fast.

Will Sony ditch the present 2011 xperia line-up after January. I mean, will they support them or not? I have been looking for their statement about this but sadly I can't find a single thing about it.

All the 2011 xperia phones are cheaper compared to others but the attractive price is worthless if after 3 months, your phone will be obsolete. Also, was the IceCream Sandwich update cancelled too after the buy-out?

I don't think this is going to happen - the 2011 xperia phones lays the foundation for Sony's all-smartphone strategy, alienating your customer base at this point would be corporate suicide.

re: ICS it would be more a question as to whether your phone hardware can support it, check link below :

I'm sorry, but please explain how the Z5 was ugly (in its day - but even today it still holds its own IMHO)

anyway, since when did Sony put out ugly products... they are very similar to Apple in that respect

Design wise Ericsson was miles ahead at that time.
Just look at the lines, element gaps and transitions, curves and edges on T28 (1999) and compare them with Z5 (2000).

actually, the T28/T39 was a good move style wise from Ericsson compared to their previous bricks, but the Sony's packed alot more punch functionally (not just with the jog dial) and still provided the style

I really only started taking notice of Ericsson when they moved to the T65/T66 (I still have my pink T66) but by the time I decided to buy the T68 was announced and then I was full drawn in... more so when shortly after the joint venture was announced.

The t39 was sexy with a battery that lasted years!! But that screen was so small.

the jog dial didn't stop you having the P800, P900, P910!
(can't tell from previous posts if you also had the P990 )

No it didn't, that doesn't mean I liked it... nor the Memorystick Duo. I don't hate Sony designs, just don't think they look elegant. They look robotic and mechanical.
