@ADV, it might be a good idea to add a GPRS services and rate comparison page to your geocities site, that seems to be the hot topic now. Have you seen the ad for Smart's "Addict" post paid plans? Someone in that company must be on crack cocaine for even thinking of that.

Catchy name!however the rates are quite low especialy for mms downloads frm their site:php5 vs 15-20 glb/smart/sun.For example plan 600-it has 75 minutes free calls and 300 peso value consumable(where all ur mms, gprs, sms, info on demand usage will be deducted).

There's only ONE 3G standard and that's UMTS.
The operators can use different implementations to conform to UMTS - and there's two major candidates - CDMA2000 and WCDMA (FOMA by NTT DoCoMo in Japan).
But just cuz a phone conforms to UMTS 'standards', doesn't mean they're interoperable. A WCDMA phone will not work on a CDMA2000 network...will it? (I'm really asking)
I'm sorry, but I'm a non-believer of 3G... I think it will be the next Satellite Phone...Just like Iridium, Global Star, and ACeS. They're all still alive, but they never took off the way they promised (the 'One World, One Phone' campaign)

well, if you are really doubting about the technology per se, then don't worry about it. maybe, a cdma player would come and give better and cheaper services, but do you expect it to be better than gsm? then try it first so you can see for yourself. =) peace!

jplacson, due to manufacturer lobbying, CDMA2000 and WCDMA are not interoperable (their implementations differ) unless both of them (the proponents) agrees (highly doubtful) on the implementation. compatibility-wise, CDMA2000 appears superior as it is natural upgrade from CDMA One and can overlay on GSM Networks. WCDMA is much more different than GSM than CDMA2000 is to CDMA One, but that's where the Europeans are going (and Japan did).
By the way, UMTS specs not only covers the phone, but the other way around - the network.
jazzbo, agree ako dyan sa proposal mo
