What do you mean? Sony are releasing at least 2 ps3 models. On top of the MANY psx models already out in japan.

Frankly I'm a PS/PS2 fan, but mainly because of the games, my geeky gadgeteer side lost out to "Fun and endless ours of playing overboard on the ps1" as well as the Wipeout series.
Xbox is alright, great specwise but quite hoenstly the games still don't grip me, Halo is such an average FPS that it still being the flagship game of the Xbox is an utter joke to me. It puts me off the Xbox more than anything. Size as well, they're bloody HUGE.
Someone mentioned in another thread about Controllers and lack of geting cramp hands with it. Bosshogg, sorry to denounce your sayings that they've just forgotton they did but I have to agree with that poster, the PS1/PS2 controllers never had me uncomfortable at all, including full weekend gaming sessions at mates places. If anything they just got a little sweaty.
Microsoft are hoping to break Sony and the Gamecubes stranglehold on Japan, once they do this they'll no doubt be very happy but it seems like its going to be a long road for them.
As long as they both come out with a decent amount of content it should be all good.

The first next-generation console should hit the market in the fourth quarter of 2005 with the introduction of Microsoft's Xbox 2.
In-Stat/MDR also informs about Sony's plans and how Nintendo fits in the middle:
Sony, however, is not likely to give Microsoft too much lead time before launching its PS3 console, which should occur by mid-2006. Nintendo will try to launch its next-generation GameCube 2 console either before, or simultaneously with Sony, which Nintendo considers to be its primary competition.
The report also includes a five-year shipment and revenue forecast for each current generation console broken down by region and shipment and revenue forecasts for the next generation of consoles through 2008. There is also an annual forecast for online console gaming subscribers through 2008.

howstuffworks.
Rumour has it the next version of the 'box will be available in 3 varieties:
1. Xbox Next - garden variety xbox 2 sans hard drive (although hard drive will be available as an option)
2. Xbox Next HD - as above with a built-in hard drive and a bundled director's cut of Halo 2 with additional content and high-def resolution graphics. seems there may also be a few more as yet undisclosed goodies too.
3. Xbox Next PC - essentially an xbox version of Windows Media Centre PC, with a lot of PC functionality including games compatability and basic Office tools, as well as internet, wireless keyboard, mouse, etc. supposedly to be released later to coincide with PS3.
all just rumour so make of it what you will.
