Ok, mp3s are a great idea but they sound crap no matter what you listen to them on.

I totally disagree. An mp3 encoded with a good encoder, such as lame 3.93 or above, is fantastic quality, and if encoded at a high bitrate, is virtually indistinguishable from the original sound. There are some nasty rumours circulating about mp3s being crap; i can assure you they are just rumours. Go encode some mp3s with lame 3.96 at a high quality VBR and decide for yourself!

Yeah I agree, I listen to mp3 and think they are great well good enough to listen throu head phones. I think the Ipod is bit of a over kill,

whats the point of having 30gig of music when you cant listen to all of it with the battery??

I have 2-3 CDs on my phone and listen to them and thats a lot of music to listen in a day.

Plus if you listen to music on the Ipod and the phone rings you wont here it! I here all my calls when my phone rings!

I like having all my music in my pocket, on one device. I dont want to have to decide what music i want to listen to before i go out, and transfer only 2 or 3 cds. Yes the ipod is probably not suitable for many people, but my lifestyle and preferences benefit hugely from it. Its a lot of money, but sooo worth it.
p.s. i have my phone on vibrate.

It really makes me mad when people start with the ipodipodipod like its the only HDD based music player available. There are better, cheaper HDD based units, like the Creative Zen Jukebox for example. And the P900 is not a dedicated music player, and as it cant take more than 1 album at 192K (bout 70 MB an album) it aint really much use as a music player but for short bus journeys/travelling to/from work.

Its apples and oranges people!

It's all very amusing with all the people comparing features of a p900 and an ipod.

The thread starter wasnt comparing the ipod and p900, he was asking whether the p900 music directory structure was similar in ease of use and efficiency to that of the ipod, and whether the music playing capabilities of the p900 were good enough to substitute having an ipod. Which of course they are, but with an enormous difference in memory.

If someone is doing a lot of travelling then I can see the iPod being the best bet for music playback, but as has been stated previously, short commutes and so on really don't justify the expenditure on an iPod; the P900 is more than capable of filling this latter role.
At the same time we must also realise that as technology progresses ever onwards we are fast approaching the time when we shall have devices capable of, not only performing all the tasks we need them to, but also capable of performing them at the highest possible level.

how about a p900 and 50 128 sticks? with movie i rather have that then listen to music and also i can browse the internet and overall the entertainment value of a p900 exceeds that of an ipod. Although if you plan to do a lot of walking not sitting in a vehicle i say ipods better because a lot of the p900 features involve you sitting down or being still.

Also i hope the next p series phone has a micro HDD

the thing is it aint a million years away toshiba unveiled a 2Gb hard drive which was about as big as three 128 duos stacked together. their hoping to get 4Gb on a platter the size of a 5p piece before the end of this year so a 2gb or even 1gb one would complement the p1000 nicely.
