@batesie and @sfaguy

Look, i was trying to get something going, you know. Forums are supposed to be about people coming together and helping fight the big guys and stuff. I didn't need approval for what I sugested sending to SE, just posted it so people could use it if they wanted to.

Esato used to be a great forum until the endess newbies started posting nonsense(try using the search) and people like you two started trying to start fights for no apparent reason other than the fact you have nothing better to do.

I think the big question still is, how will existing P900 users save their cell frames from cracking.

Cant we use some kind of cushion to stop the keypad a little further from the screen?. I know exactly what kind of material I would need, but somehow, i cant describe it in words. Its like a soft, thick, spongy, black material that we can stick.

Will try it out and put a pic if possible.

Yes indeed. That would be help.
All I also care about now is, how to protect it

Remember, prevention is better than cure

For the past couple days, I am using some strips of clear plastic laminate to protect the contact areas on the P900. It seems that the pressure from the rubber 'nubs' are leaving indents on the laminate localized and may need to spread the weight around.

I am looking for a self adhesive hard plastic/metal sticker. Otherwise I'm going to cut a thin credit card (like a Japanese calling card) into strips and attach it to the grey areas with some double-sided tape is my next solution.

I have sent a complaint to SE, as follows, those of a sensitive disposition should look away since after the compliant there is a photo of the crack (note, photo not sent to SE):

My P900 has developed a crack in the screen where the flip keypad hits the P900 body. This is due to what I believe is a design error, which seems to be noticed by other P900 owners, and it seems like SonyEricsson (SE) also noticed this problem, since the next version, the P910i, does not have the spring in the flip keypad. I would like to know (1) is SE going to recognised this problem as a problem to be fixed under warranty? (I had the phone only 4 months when this problem happened); (2) what is the procedure for getting the screen repaired? (e.g. send to SE or retailer?); (3) will the repair included something to stop the flip keypad cracking the screen and the body?

I am not expecting SE to do anything, just hoping. It will cost anywhere between £95 - £150 + VAT to repair, and so far I have no guarentees that it will not happen again so I am relucant to get it repaired (only to have the same thing happen). I am very interested in the P910i (no spring in flip, 64k RAM, upto 1GB MS duo, thumb QWERTY in flip) and would rather save the money for obtaining the P910i.

Gary,
Thanks, to the P800 ginea pigs, in return I have been a ginea pig for future P910i owners. Ofcourse, P800 & P900 are still pretty good mobiles.

Is it not possible to remove the offending spring manually at home ?

Either that, or remember not to let the flip close on its own, close it gently.

i dont think that shuting the flip is the only problem- what about the fact that when we have our lovely expencive phone in out pocket how hard do we lean on it\?
when we bend down and out trouser tighten how much force goes onto it? allot more than when we shut the flip,
anyway my one cracked i took it back to the orange shop where i got it after a bit of arguing they sent it away gave me a t610 till my phone was back and 2 days later no cracks/cunks missing new covers, this proves my point of full insurance on a phone is worth it (after my older phone t610 was given a spin in the washing machine)
