how long have samsung been in the game as they only seem to have been around a short period of time
they seem to have come from no where in the last 4 years

personally i prefer nokia than samsung...i hate samsung cell phones they are shyt...
they got very different design which is not dat attractive and the features are pathetic... while D500 has again got up the same... design like its previous models...

i think in telcom industry nokia surely rules the market as it comes wid various types of model and with less feature...but it does concentrate to the customer's need, this is where SE lacks we hope till the end...but we still cant find a perfect cell phone
a perfect cell phone dosnt means..it shud have everything but the generation is moving on with symbian and UIQ which SE juss dont understands it !!

though SE makes quality cell phones which cannot be compared to
nokia and all other cell phone manufactures. I certainly dont have any objections with SE ...they are slow but..they come with a quality and thats what i prefer...!!!

@whizzkid - I can agree with your point,yet I still think edge won't last much longer, due to the limited bandwidth. See, phone companies are developing all this expensive (over priced in my view) content they want to sell us, and they need bandwidth to deliver it!

Granted edge is an excellent transitional technology. In Australia, we have edge and 3g. You can even get edge pcmcia cards for laptops (No doubt they are common in india, from what you say). 2.5g users can buy edge data packs that are quite well priced. It's taken about 2 years for 3G to become competitive with other carriers, but it is now as affordable as 2.5G. (But 3G phone choice in Australia is very poor, and handsets are bulky).

Personally, I'm not that sure that 3G will be the next system, as other faster and better and cheaper systems are already being planned, inclluding types of wi-fi and other more traditional cellular networks. All these new systems are faster than edge and 3g, so I am more inclined to think that both edge and 3g will dissappear soon, atleast for mainstream users.

I am keen keen keen to see proper broadband being delivered to phones, but I am a techhead from way back, not a normal user by any means.

Nevertheless, I can see your problem with SE. It'd be nice if they maintained some commitment to India's current wireless broadband technology, since you guys do afterall comprise over a quarter of the world's population. I think they are missing a BIG market opportunity, even if it's only for the next year or so.

Sony is a much bigger company than ericsson, and while SE has retained much of the original ericsson, it is most certainly a new company. Both Sony and Ericsson methodologies have been transplanted into SE, to create a completely new entity, with the advantage of strong hardware experience from both parents.

Fortunantly Sony are dropping DRM to some extent; the SE Bluetooth MP3 player, while it plays attrac, also supports MP3 files, a first as far as I know for Sony music players which usually only support the Attrac codec. Since the bluetooth player, Sony have introduce another true MP3 walkman into their personal music player line. I believe this influence comes partly from Ericsson and their market experience.

It has taken a few years for the two companies to merge wholistically, and now we are seeing the fruits of that merge. Some poster dumped on the K750i form factor - well I like it, and the k750 and W800 are only signs of better things to come. More on board memory than most competitors, 2MP camera, memory exansion (rare in non-smart phones), and minimalistic styling that doesn't interfere with ergonomics (like some nokia phones I could mention..)

SE is a new company, i know Ericsson, but i never used them because i not like it design and the screen is small, but when SE born, i just heard so many kick ass phones like T68i, P800, T610, it design really changed at all from Ericsson and have more fun/multimedia feature than Ericsson, they all are really amazing, stylish design, wide screen, high tech with superb connectivity, then i tried to bought my very first SE phone T310 (cause i've no much money that day), and i really impressed, it cheaper than Nokia 6610 and 6100 but it can do more, the problem just a 256colour screen but is really not a matter when compared to another feature, especially IRda connectivity, ringtone and camera.

btw, in my country SE really growth fast, it position is 2 now behind Nokia, in year 2003 it just rank 4. About the EDGE, im not sure EDGE will do much, it different just a few compared to GPRS, i prefer UMTS.

SE not innovative ?? i wanna ask :
- who has make the first camera phone (not built in)??
- what the 1st bluetooth phone
- what the 1st PDA touchscreen phone
- 1st joystick on phone, SE ??
- 1st real 3D games on phone, yes ! SE P800

Correct me if my statement is wrong

I think Nokia is popular because they don't think whether to implement EDGE (or any other technology) in tehr phones. They see a market with a growing number of EDGE users, give them as much EDGE enabled phones as possible! I think thats good. To day, even a light pocketed user can use EDGE in India, as low-mid end phones like the 3220 have EDGE. This message was posted from a T230

edge is obviously much more widespread in some countries, in Australia there hasn't been a huge take up (I think it costs about the same as 3G here, and 3G is faster).

I guess SE are betting that the edge market will be surplanted by newer faster services in the near future. Or maybe they are hedging their bets and waiting to see which network dominates, however personally I think edge is limited in scope, since it is a 2.5G technology.

The networks see gold in broadband content provision, and that's why they are in such a hurry to get 3G established. EDGE doesn't have the bandwidth to deliver the content they are planning.
