I think we have to remember though that whilst the idea of 'not looking' is a fair point to make, it doesn't always work. One of the most insidious problems is the fact that some can't seem to help making political and/or religious comments in threads that have little or nothing to do with such issues, or in which people have deliberately tried to avoid such comments.
The consensus so far seems to be that a dedicated political/religious forum is the way to go. Anyone wishing to discuss these issues could do so in a forum that is clearly marked, and which everyone will have a clear understanding of. Anyone who exhibits an inability to conduct themselves in those sort of debates could be banned from participating in that forum. Seems simple enough to me.

That certainly seems the judicious thing to do. I'd wholeheartedly support the creation of such a forum... It would need a mod with brass cojones, although i'm confident those we have are more than capable of doing the job.

Let Esato be all it can be.
Its members contribute and their contributions have made it what it is today... and what it will be tomorrow.
Segregate topics by all means but do not try to restrict them.
This site is fabulous and deserves the right to become more than it was ever envisaged to be.

Have a look
HERE for how a religious or political thread should be conducted, especially from about the middle of the thread onwards
Intelligent debate but no flaming!

@Sammy_boy
The sad part of that is the use of the word 'should'. That thread is something of an exception to the rule, hence why I have decided to make a post or two in it.
If only all such threads could be as civil as that one has turned out ...

It's sad really... Civility costs absolutely nothing, as do good manners. I suppose it says much about the human psyche.

@scots
thanks for backing me up. whilst you are right Gigs, sometimes i have the urge to reply in a ridiculous politics thread. just not looking is not an answer. if i see something political that i heavily disagree with, i would reply. whereas not visiting a political forum would be better for me and many others.

is what brings us together but at the moment politics is ripping us apart!

Absolutely correct.
No flaming whatsoever so far and hope it stays that way

How long has this debate to run? Will laffen or the moderators comment again? Are any of the ideas expressed here to be adopted?
