DAB is short for Digital Audio Broadcast.....its a standard for digital radio in Europe and will probably eventually replace FM signals in the UK

I think the P950 is purely an upgrade to the P910 to run on 3G networks. Here in the UK, and I am sure this applies to other countries in Europe, the networks are really going to promote 3G this Xmas and therefore they need new handsets. Vodafone have about 6/8 that are exclusive to them and therefore the story about Orange having the P950 first does not surprise me. I think the other rumour that SE have another Smartphone in the pipeline sounds very realistic.
I have a K608i, which is SE's "cheap" 3G phone. It is amazing how small and light this device is. If they reuse the technology from the K608i I can see the P950 will be smaller than the P910 and have more capability.
DAB - good old BBC had a hand in its development

The jog-dial is far more senible for a touch screen phone as it can be put on the side and doesnt disrupt the large touch screen. If the p910 for example, was to have a joystick instead it wuld have to be taller to not only accomodate the joystick but to also add suficent bulk to make handling it worthwhile. Look at the motorola axxx series where they have had to make their phones huge to acomodate both the touch screen and a joysitck/joypad. In my opinion the jog-dial is one of the nicer design features of the pxxxs, i used to love it on the z5, then i got a sony clie which had it and eventually my p910i, it feels so natural to use it.
Of course it feels natural to you since you had Sony products prior to the P-series. But like I said, the jogdial isn't ambidextrous. And has limited functionality... mainly due to the directional bias of the control. (rolling rather than directional)
The toward-away function of the jogdial is very kludgy. I don't know how many of you are familiar with Sony's Sport line of portable CD and MD players (these were white and orange)... they had a side mounted 5-way joystick. This was much more functional, since it basically worked like IBM's Trackpoint except it was mounted on the side. To illustrate my point... for those laptop users, imagine having Sony's 5-way Jogdial instea d of a Trackpoint, or trackpad. With the full functions of the P-series, a scroller with occasional left-right functionality isn't as useful as a full 5-way d-pad or joystick.
How is this different from the Jogdial you might ask... implementation of the control. All directions are equally easy to access and control (up, down, left, right)... rather than just up-down bias.
A joystick (whether center, or side mount) would be more efficient and logical since it could now function as a mouse, and require less movements (no need to keep rolling the wheel)
But, ideally, a jogdial on the side... plus a 5-way d-pad on the keypad would be more ideal. The Jogdial isn't a big deal... it can easily be replaced with Ericsson's slider switch (with an additional push-button function) found on the T68m. The push-pull function of the Jogdial isn't as ergonomic as it should be.

When are you gonna update this thread and spell the topic correctly?!? The codename for the P1000 is known as the "Hermione" not "Hermoine"
Consider it done!
23 days left until
The Smartphone Show 11-12 october in Excel Centre, London.
Will we see a P950i?

DAB is a worldwide thing
http://www.worlddab.org/ which the BBC played some part in but not as much as they always like us licence payers to think.
It's highly unlikely that FM will fade yet but be used to augment new services. For example the AM spectrum is going to be used for Digital Radio Mondiale (DRM). I suspect that FM will be used for something similar. Also, the licences for DAB operate so differently to FM that some channels won't move onto DAB any time soon.

I like the jog dial as I'm left handed it's about time they started making stuff for us so right handed people know how we have to struggle with most things designed for them

I like the jog dial, too. Even I am right handed I am very comfortable using my left hand for it. No need to change it.
