Prom1, forgot all about the philips DAT tapes.... you are quite correct they do pre-date the Mini-disc. I was sorta just thinking of portables, but I didn't specify so my bad
Technically, the CD player is the first digital audio player, if you think about it!! Who invented the CD? Sony and Philips of course.
Actually we are both wrong about the first cd based games console. Apparently it was the NEC TurboGrafx-16!
The Jaguar was a cartridge based Atari console, not Sega. The Atari Jaguar cd drive was an aftermarket attachment, and came out after the Sony Playstation release. (following playstation, Sega came out with the Sega Saturn, and then Nintendo along time later with the Gamecube.)

From the point of view of someone who lives in a developing country that has urban centers barely trying to keep up with fast-changing technologies, I feel k750/w800 will always be at least one-up on the 3250, at least in places like ours (philippines).
For the moment (and probably for some time to come), people here who have use for smartphones will be those people who could afford separate laptops, ipods, digital cams, PDAs, exorbitant over-the-air data fees, and who have cars and move around mostly in places where these gadgets of theirs would be relatively secure. Others simply either don't know what a smartphone is, while still others who may know cannot yet afford the convenience of a smart phone (it's not just the smartphone you'll be paying for, but the services and add-ons that come with the features that are unfortunately really expensive here).
The beauty of the k750 is also in its practicality. For the longest time, nokia phonecams have lorded it over here simply because a lot of people cannot afford real digicams & these provide a very good alternative, especially when you want to reach out to someone and share yourself & your memories. SE phones were really left way behind until they came out with the S700. With the K750 however, I think SE took sight of Nokia's advantage & even brought it a step further -- you should see how very "in" it is now in urban centers here to have very small portable music players. PDAs, which generally have all the practical features of smartphones and of the K750/w800 (maybe sans the phone in most units tho), just looked too big and not so cool when you commute to work and are plugged in to it.
What I'm saying is that the K750 media player looks and sounds superb, it takes pictures as good as 2mp digicams, can be personalized, is priced reasonably well, and it simply looks cool. 3250 just doesn't look as cool and is as bulky enough as a PDA to attract undue attention. For people like me, you have the practical functionality of four useful gadgets in a classic, unassuming package in the k750. Others of us here who do not have to worry about the flashiness of our gadgets simply get the w800.
The relative "slowness" with which SE comes out with new phones is also a boon here. Since most of the people here are struggling with day-to-day costs of living, having the phone you bought 3 months ago at half the price today is enough reason to cry. The more practical buyers here look at Samsungs & SEs because even the dealers advice that prices tend to stick longer than on Nokias.
Bottomline, K750 here will hold its niche for quite some time. 3250 will either arrive too late (when its practical features have been saturated by a lot of other models) or will itself be overtaken quickly by other models even w/in its own line.
Or to sum it up, K750 simply looks cool...

The dimension of 3250 is nowhere near a PDA? It is even thinner than the W800.

From what I know price of SE drop faster than Nokia. When K700 first came out it was more expensive than the 6230. But later, K700 was cheaper than 6230.

you're right, it is 0.7mm thinner. although it's still a great deal longer & wider, which makes its cubic size really bulkier than the w800. But that's really already nitpicking, i admit. but its form factor still makes it look nearer to a pda than to a k750 when held in your hand, which makes it more conspicuous, that's just what i'm saying.
3250: 103.8 mm x 50 mm x 19.8 mm (= 102,762)
w800: 100 x 46 x 20.5 mm (=94,300)

Not quite what happens here in our islands. Nokia saturates here and prices drop everytime newer models come out. So less availability of SE and the length of time before SE phones get an upgrade make the prices stick longer. As far as I know, when I was looking just around 3 weeks ago for my sis, the lowest K700 price here is still higher than the lowest i can find for a 6230...
