One of the things that angered me with my P910 was/is having to leave the phone on for the alarm to go off. SE have pissed me off again by doing the same with the P990. I'm up for an uprade soon and there are too many niggles with this device that I've finally decided I don't want it anymore.

The alarm thing is nothing to do with Vodafone the Pseries from 900 to 990 have all required the phone to be in power on or flight mode for the alarm to operate.

@Nitro Fan- Apologies if I misread or misunderstood your post but There's nowhere in my post do I attribute the alarm issue to Vodaphone. As a matter of fact I do make mention of SE pissing me off... By the way is the P990's flip active, can you answer or end a call with it? I know it's not your standard flip phone.

if you learn how to use it you will not get any problems.. if you think ui is to slow use the trick with the video..
se will sort this out.. had an p800 that was 100 times worse than this but i was patient and everything was fixed.. i dont complain, when the new uiq was made it was for sure that it wouldt run perfect on the first efforth..
my phone is working excellent with two hands and one.. just get used to the phone.. and that the phone has to been to trigger a alarm has always been so as far as i can remember, with p800, p900 and p910..
im happy with my phone and im going to keep it..
i just descovered that (on my m600) you can set an alarm and it will go off even if the phone is switched off! but only if it is on charge

Ive been using my p990 since yesterday and I am growing to like it.
I wasn't sure at first as I had a few kern errors and the screen just staying white.
It was dropping calls and the reception/signal was terrible (mainly 2 bars signal strength) but when I dug the manual out I was able to find the option to switch the 3g mode off and have it permanently on GSM which fixed the reception/dropping calls.
I personally like the phone.
In all areas except software availabilty the p990 has improved on the p910 for me. With the flip closed the phone is far more usable one handed and the 5 way navigation key and back key means I dont miss the back and forth movement of the jog wheel.
I can type long abusive txts to my friends when im in bed, on the backlit qwerty keypad without the need for a lamp on
As for the Alarm it doesnt really bother me that on my p990 I have to leave it switched which I do but in flight mode so no one disturbs me (I charge all my phones every night, I know It doesnt help for calender events/reminders) Im just glad I get the option of repeated alarms for work days. No nokia s60 phone does this (Altho the Siemens SX1 did) You have to install a 3rd party app just to get a repeated alarm unless you use the calender app which was more annoying as when I got my N91, at 1st there wasnt such an app for s60 v3! (Thankfully alarm manager was released quite swiftly)
The camera altho only 2mega pixel is a massive improvement on the p910i's and I noticed how sharp and big the screen is when i was installing some software on my friends on N80 for him.
I never used scummvm on my p910 but I have to say, day of the tentacle looks amazing on the p990 and I installed scummvm on my n91 and couldnt even read the writing!!
Today the phone has been more stable than yesterday. Its not crashed or had any kern errors so touch wood it may have settled down. Ive still got 12 days to return it if it starts throwing any major wobblers but for now Im pleased with the hardware changes SE made.
All new phones have problems my n91 was infuriating until nokia released the speed up sms file. The phone would take forever to send a txt making the phone unresponsive to anything else while it was sending.
I was going to get either an n80 or a p990 as I wanted tom tom but I found vodafone and orange had discontinued the n80 due to issues with the handset. So we are not alone when it comes to teething troubles with new OS. Being early adopters we have to suffer the bugs AND a lack of software. Neither my p990 or N91 can do the the things my old p910 and N72 can/could do but with time this will improve along with the firmware and at least with uiq3 I can actually see many changes and improvements that have been made to the ui unlike s60 v3 which I dont doubt has many changes behind the scenes but looks and feels exactly the same, doesnt apppear to have given me any noticeable improvements and leaves me wishing nokia had left it alone so all my apps wud blimmin work!!

I downloaded one of the Test Drive unlimited videos and converted it to mp4 as it was, no faffing....etc. I found that my n80 played it without any problems at all, and it looked very good too. My p910 would not play any of the picture, but you did get a nice sound track. This morning I B/T it to my p990 and ran it on that, it looked and sounded good, however unlike the the n80 it dropped frames. Both phones were displaying it in full screen mode.
I haven't had chance to try anything else I'm away for the weekend and only got the phone Friday morning. I'll have a look at the video thread and see what people are producing.
