It's pointless having this discussion with you. You obviously live in your own little world with power outlets everywhere and don't appreciate what has been said in the last few pages. Forget the make and OS of the phone - this is not a Nokia/symbian bashing exercise. Look at the basis of this discussion as being on the ability of this phone to meet the mobile needs of everybody. Now, consider that not everyone will want to carry a spare battery and charger. This alone defeats the purpose of a mobile device as you have to either fill your pockets or carry a bag with you just to cover the power requirements of a phone. The majority of people expect to leave their charger at home, be able to use their phone all day and only have to charge it at night. Unlike you, not everyone will have the oportunity to charge their phone when the battery runs flat. i.e. those who work outside. I fail to understand why you don't see this point.
Let's focus on you for a minute. Your sitting in you perfect power everywhere world. You've happily brought your spare battery to work, plugged in your charger at work and even have a charger in your car. Today, your spare battery is flat and on charge. Your work asks you to catch a taxi to another location. During this time you have to make a lot of phone calls and are expected to stay late. Would you be happy when your phone went flat?
What is actually your problem? If someone dont want to charge their N95 daily, then they just dont use the wifi/gps/video rec functions. Use it like the k800 (i.e. make calls/sms/take low-res photo), then the N95 will last 2-3 days per charge without problem. Then again, wont that be stupid to buy the N95 just to use it like the spec-inferior K800.

Seems I've upset you two. I'm sure some pointed out that their phone battery went flat with very little use - I just tried to look at it from that point and debate that issue. For the record I don't have an N95 and commented on how I would feel if any phone suffered poor battery life with normal usage. Go back read my comments. It was never my intention upset those who make bold one sided statements and are then sensitive when someone disagrees.
Sapporobaby - You asked me to "enlighten" you on how the need to charge a battery would be an issue. I tried to do that and tried to use you as an example just to see if you could understand my point. Obviously you find this offensive. So, I have no desire to upset you or debate this any further. If you're happy to accept the battery life then so be it - if that's what you accept that's what companies will continue to deliver.

I have to wonder. If you N95 owners were to play music non stop how long would the battery last?
That's kinda what i'm going to be testing for the next week. I just got a N95 today, going to have to decide whether it can replace my W950i or not.
Day 1 didn't really leave me impressed. it was charging through the night and first thing in the morning, at around 7:00, i turned it on, at around 10:00 i hooked it up to the HBH-DS970 which i'm used to using non-stop. It is now around 16:00 and the N95 is bitchin' about low battery. i've listend to music for about an hour (A2DP), captured a 30 sec video, made quite a few calls, hooked it up to the PC 2 times and made one short video call.
Unacceptable. For a phone to die before my HBH-DS970 dies seems like a miracle to me. And i'm used to to listening to maybe 4-5 hours of music a day (A2DP), while the W950i is constantly connected to the internet through a data connection and still coming home at night with 30%-40% battery.
I hope things seem better tomorrow. Of course, tomorrow i might be tempted to try the GPS and / or Wi-FI, which means it could be worse.

@Mongoose,
Let's start at zero.
I see your point about the battery life of the N95 and for that matter most phones. The only phone I have ever seen that can run for days is my E61. It just won't die. I have left it for 3 or more days and come back to see it still chugging away.
With that being said, more can be done, I guess, on the battery front however just like all phone makers, Nokia buys batteries. Someone, rightly or wrongly, made the decision to put a 950 mAh battery in the N95. It is simply to small in many cases but for some, it is a moot issue. I decided that there is no other way around the battery issue so I came up with my own fix. In my opinion, SE nor the other phone makers have anything remotely interesting or on par with the N95, so I decided to get an extra battery, charge it at night, and try to limit unpleseant experiences. So far this works for me. For others this is not enough and they are not wrong for wanting more.
Hope this cleared things up. I was not offended or angry by the way.

Good points Sapporobaby. I was amazed to discover the W52s has a rated 110hrs music playback, but at the same time that isn't a small phone.
It looks like Nokia, in its quest to keep the N95 a decent size, might have compromised the N95 on the battery front.

@sapporo
i just sold my n95

i MIGHT get another one, asi get them fairly cheap. And hope that it has a better slider and battery. the slider is wonky on the right side, i can push it in easily. quite annoying. for an expensive phone. the s500 was like this, but cost MUCH less.
its either p1 now or maybe give n95 another try. If the next n95 is not better in build, i wil sell, as i can make profit on it, and defo get p1,
also, do you use desktop charger? whats your method of charging 2 batteries? if i was to charge 2 batteries, id do one for a couple hrs before i sleep, then the other when iactually go to sleep. And put the other one i charged for 2 hrs in the phone in the morn.

@>500,
I just run one flat, charge it, then charge the other one.
I was talking to a friend at Nokia. He said there will be a new slider mechanism coming out soon. The cool thing is that all phones are under warrantee so it should be free to fix.
Can we all cross our fingers together?

It is frustrating that people try to depict some unnatural battery life (i.e. battery went flat in few hours with little use) as a NORMAL N95 batttery performance. N95 battery life is mediocre but it is no way near that bad. It is not about being sensitive. You would feel the the same if someone implied that K800 is crap because battery life is only enough to make 30mins of calls and have less than 1 day standby.

Well if my K800 had a short a battery life I wouldn't have bought it. If battery life become an issue after I bought it I would be making a lot of noise about it. And, I wouldn't really care what anyone said as everyone will have different opinions and experiences. This isn't an SE V Nokia argument. I could have compared a samsung phone, an LG phone or another Nokia. My whole point is that there is a fair expectation as to how long any Mobile Phone can last on a battery. For the record, I do not consider my K800 to be a great phone and am not trying to preach about the phone - I actually rather regret getting it as the Camera is overated (as are all Phone Cameras), the sound output is bad and the lens cover opens too easy. So feel free to say whatever you like about it - I'll probably agree with you.
