If anyone is finding that the Satio is slowing down/pausing at random - has anyone worked out what is causing it?

I'm listening to quite a lot of music/podcasts and videos - and the processor is more than capable - yet at times the music will pause, either a short stutter or a pause of 1, 2 or even 3 seconds.

Likewise, for video, it will either drop the sound, or pause the video for a second or two.

I've made sure no apps are running in the background (using a separate task manager program) and even tried turning off the sensors (as well as auto screen rotation, which is far too quick to switch mode - even tilting just a few degrees).

I am using the phone a lot when going on the train, so I'm in and out of tunnels and swapping from 2G to 3G. I am now beginning to suspect that my problems are existing when the phone is either going in/out of coverage or handing over from 2G to 3G.

Therefore, it would be good if we could establish this to be the case - and it would explain why some people are saying they have no problems at all. If you're using the media player in great coverage and not moving around that much, perhaps you have no problems at all. At home, I can swap from 2G to 3G all the time, so that may explain why at times it's awful - but if I am using the phone in another part of the house which has a better signal, it's fine.

Finally, let me add that I am going to do some further testing in flight mode to try and confirm/deny if this is a problem.

Without sounding ignorant, is your handset branded? and what format are the files you are viewing/listening to?

It's unbranded.

BINGO! seems I may have finally found the problem. Having put the device into flight mode, I've managed to go the whole evening watching videos and listening to music without a single delay. In fact, the phone is actually operating faster in nearly every regard.

Slight problem; no calls, data, texts or anything!!

This MUST be something that a firmware update can fix. It might also explain why some people insist they have no problems, I'm obviously using the phone somewhere where coverage is an issue - and especially when on the move - and this might also explain how SE wouldn't have noticed in 'lab testing' conditions.

For anyone else with stuttering problems, try flight mode and report back. And if this is the answer, you read it here first!!

@ jmcomms,

I am playing videos at 4mb bit rate and 160kbps audio bit rate, no issues in playback. Yes when listening to music via bluetooth and it accesses the wifi to sync my exchange server emails, once or twice sound has skipped, but not much.

Also Roadsync is always on as an application on my phone.

@ jmcomms

A way around you having fluctuating 3G/2G signal is to switch to GSM only or 3G only and this will eliminate any signal switching lag...

You have no idea how many issues this fixes on numerous handsets!! Not just SE ones either

I did lock the Satio to UMTS, but it still stuttered. It seems to freeze up even by simply losing signal, or possibly handing off from one cell to another.

Video bitrate makes no difference. I can play something encoded at super-high quality on iSquint (Mac), downloaded from PlayNow Movies or really low-quality episodes of South Park that are low-res and low-bitrate.

@janke1

You have a more extensive comparation between N86 and Satio in the link below (click on links below each picture for full size) and I don't think Satio is as bad as you claim (perhaps something is wrong with your Satio).

Can anyone tell me whether the Satio Offers the option of receiving "selected calls only" or setting up a list of selected calls to receive or setting the incoming calls to "Contacts only"??
These were really handy features to have on the P990...

Any help appreciated.
