Seems like some people have no clue about what they're talking about...as if firmware updates are some miraculous magic tricks that can transform a device into doing anything it wasn't designed to do. It's just a piece of software, it can't possibly change the physical properties of the memorystick interface on any device. Only if MS (duo) pros can be read serially there is a faint chance of it working.

As to normal Sony's "mistakes" with the incompatibilities with the MS and MS pro formats... I don't think a big company like sony makes any moves without calculating profits..do you see, people who bought digital cameras supporting only memorysticks have to buy new cameras if they want to be able to use MS pros. They have to buy new memorystick readers also..not to mention the memorysticks themselves. What's the point for Sony to make old devices compatible with newer storage technology? It's all about $$$$$$$$$ mate.

Also don't take the claims of a few websites too seriously, dealers have been known to bullshit customers for as long as mankind remembers...they just want you to preorder so they can keep you coming back to their site. I remember in the summer when I tried to order MS duos many www-shops in the US wanted me to preorder, then they showed the sticks 'in stock' for a day or two, then put them back to 'backordered'. The price they claimed to sell for was so low that there was no way to get the sticks now, the company would simply wait until the general market price got low enough, and then sell the procucts.

But the p800 isnt old enough mate and someone in esato post a link of sonymemory that duo pro can be read serially so whats the problem? the p800 is new enough to have a combatible reader with pro duos if someone of you dont even believe sony what else you believe?

Memory Stick PRO media is compatible with both serial and parallel interfaces. Upon detection of the type of interface of the compatible host unit, the media automatically changes its transfer mode.

I hope thsi stops ths sceptics if it doesnt i dont know what does anymore!!!

If the above statement is true, then there is a 99% chance they will work. The only issue I can see is updating the software in the P800 to accept the addressing of the higher amount, which I don't think is a very hard thing to do! *Touches wood*

@Laza

Why don't you read the thread properly before posting?

All that's needed for ANY memory stick product is a firmware update for it to take Pro media. The issue is that not all products are upgradable.

I think that the P800 (in my opinion of course) is likely to be upgradable. (whether it happens or not is another thing)

MS Pro CAN be read/written using a serial interface.

Yes I do know what I'm talking about.

Read my post on P3 for more info/links (or look at the link from Arfi).

The people from MyMemory don't know what they're talking about, and they'll be having a lot of returns when they get stock.

This is the same to the old SONY Clie palm/camera and anything else that use the old MS hardware. So in that case, since P800 finally decided to include the MS-DUO 1 1/2 years ago, I really really really don't think that it used the "new" PRO hardware. (some of the old sony clie/camera that's out 1 1/2 years ago can't use PRO at all, you guess.)

First of all P800 was not out 1 1/2 years ago.

Memory Stick Pro final design and specification was finish early 2002(around March April 2002)

Memory stick pro was first announced December 2002

Memory stick Pro was seen in the market March 2003

Some Cameras, Clies, and Camcorders that read regular MS released to the market between July 2002 - Dec 2002 was ready for MSPro(secretly) without any need for upgrade. Originally these gadgets was released without mentioning that they will be able to read MS Pro.

P800 was released to the market around Nopember-Dec 2002(long after the MS Pro design and specification finalized)

Therefore I strongly believe that P800 was design with Pro in mind but original firmware would not allow you to use the pro. Whether or not SE is going to upgrade the firmware is another question. But we as P800 users should write SE CS and shouting how bad you want your P800 to use the Pro.

Another hint!! What products officially ready for MSDuo pro up to now?. Only a USD300 Low End Digital Camera U50? I don't think U50 users actually need the Pro. Within 2-3 weeks Sony, Lexar, and Sandisk will flood MSDuo Pro to the market. Who is going to buy MSDuo Pro?

Can anybody explain to me what could possibly limit the p800 to 128MB? I know it has been discussed here many times but the 128MB limit does not make sense. Whay is that Motorola A920 with the same OS as P800 can read external memory more than 128MB?

I think I have SAID THIS 100 TIMES BEFORE!

IT IS NOT A HARDWARE PROBLEM!!!!!

ITS SOFTWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

read this:
http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/news/mspromedia.html

Simply says that a simple patch will make your old device work with the PRO!

P800 is not on the List! - dont know why think this was out before the p800 - but sony only list sony products(P800 is not a pure sony product!)

But it proves its a software issue and not a hardware issue!

Think this website is wrong!!! Its SONY!
