That's actually what Nokia relies so much on, their name and popularity. Some people who don't really care about functionality or specs just get a Nokia to fit into the majority. Sad for some people Nokia is the only brand they are aware of.
SE on the other hand is slowly building up an image of its own, and so far it's a good image IMO.

Nokia has a very good brand image, reliable and tested. It is difficulty to for SE to get such an image, they are more like high end phones that deliver. High end SE's Mainly p series is designed to work with you and sometimes, help you make a living.

One thing is that, in India, SE is slowly gaining respect as a quality phone maker (Thanks to all members of SE India Thread). Even though its not selling like hot cakes, people generally associate Sony with quality and hence is easily turned to bUY SE if someone trecommends them to. Sony can't be bad they say.

You see Nokia bounced back last year after dipping for a short while under 30% market share ! No they are stronger then ever with almost 33% and good forecasts.(they are expected to win over 40% of the 3G market ! ) they will release a few 3G handsets in the coming weeks (6680 is one of them and at only euro 500 is considered the top dog even surpassing the mighty 6630 - another nokia product) If the other manufacturers don't wake up soon, only a few crumps scattered on the floor are going to be left ! @mario, i agree. But i don't think SE is concerned about market share and stuff. They just want to consolidate themselves as makers of quality cellphones.

@Mario. What you don't seem to understand it you don't have to sell 10 times as many handsets to make a profit.
SE may not sell as many handsets as Nokia but still manages to make a healthy profit, which it has done for the last 6 QUARTERS IN A ROW, so their finances are healthy, as you will discover if you use any search engine.
It is more important, in my eyes, that the handsets are top notch, good quality and influencial. SE handsets WIN AWARDS just take a look at the website and you will see, the latest being the V800.
90% of Nokia users are frightened to change their handsets because of the lame excuse "yeah but they are so easy to use". The UI is crap, and hard to fathom, they are stuck with it, and frankly if they are too plain dumb to adapt to a new UI then THEIR LOSS. (in the nicest possible way

I thought that SE is the 'outside horse' to bet on this year but so far are limping around and the latest phones announced on monday don't convince me at all ! I am even inclined to think nokia might add another 2-3% market share this year (looking at their 3G line up) On the other hand I want to use this opportunity to thank the Esato Forum members for the insides and info they provided me over the past year or so.

no, I am happy with what we see now though I think they have yet to hit the perfect quality they we'd all like to see from the joining of Sony and Ericsson, but it will come.
lets just wait and see what they come up with in a months time and hope that they have been a little more secretive this year compared with last year so that we really do get some nice surprises
