your correct in one way but i dont think we can ignore that edge is still important for a lot of countries around the world.
there are many emerging mobile networks around the world and plenty just getting to grips with 2g
for many of these countrys it would be impractical and fincially difficult to make the leap to 3g
this is were edge will serve it purpose for the next few years bridging the gap
in the uk we are luckier as our 2g network has been running many years, also look at our 3g network its been up and running 2 years and still only 3 companies offer it ( 2 of which only started end of last year) coverage is still not great. yet we are an established market.
whether se should support edge is more a business decision maybe they dont see them selves making money from it as nokia is so strong in these edge enabled countries

sorry forgot about o2 they seem to have launched with such a wimper i totaly fogot that they have a 3g service, they seem to be making very little attempts to push the service, unlike the other 3.

This just in, Nokia are to release phones connected with Microsofts windows media player, and motorola are developing itune phones.

Hmm, maybe Sony Ericsson need to get this walkman series up to speed, because competition is on its way.

The above news aint new, but its relevant to this thread

The fight is on! SonyEricsson seems the least proprietry so far. A turn up for the books from a Sony company (they haven't used their atrac codec, but instead aac, and mp3).

Does anyone know, are the motorola and nokia mp3 compatible?

When 3g will be jaunmaged in India, i'm sure it will have one of the lowest tariffs in the world. Due to fierce competition. But whats wrong in giving few EDGE enabled handsets before that? This message was posted from a T230

Hmm, it does seem like a foolish market to ignore, even if it's life is only a year or two.

SE have the S700 and Z500 EDGE phones, admitedly a small offering, the S710a, brilliant but over priced, and the z500, a clamshell (argh).

Neither of those phones is available in Australia. Personally I'm waiting until broadband (3g, edge are our choices at present) gets cheaper. I get by with my standard gprs at the mo'. It's fast enough for business use.

If I was in India, from the sound of EDGE pricing there, I'd be unhappy about SE's lack of support, for sure.
