Personaly, I must aggree with the opinions put forward here about the design and the keyboard/screensice. I have a P900 and use it with the flip removed. If I need top make a quick note, the sylys will do a good job, a quick SMS, the viritual flop using T9 is perfect. If I ever feel "I need a keyboard for this" it is usualy for wrighting an E-mail, responding to a post on Esato or chatting over MSN with friends or coworkers. For these tasks my ThinkOutside BT Keyboard will do a way better job than any thumbboard!Any phone with a thumbboard pon the actual phonebody, TREO, Blackberry, is uggly IMO and therefore, if the new P series looks like the images wehave seen, I may go over to using a small-phone-with-everything-in-it, a Windows Mobile PDA and my BT keyboard.

Isn't the whole point of the P series that it can be used as a normal phone most of the time? I never really understood why you would buy it and remove the flip. Even more so on the P910i

For some people the P910 is used mostly as a PDA, that's why people remove the flip.

Besides, the virtual flip works well.
In my case I've mapped the Phone application to the useless Internet button. I can make most calls with a tap with my finger (on screen shortcuts), and I also have access to a full screen keypad if I tap on the bottom.

Edit: I also got pretty good writing on screen, so I don't miss the P910 QWERTY keyboard.

I've never actually used the phone without the keypad to be honest. Maybe I should try it

Perhaps this is getting a little off-thread now, but I'll just add a few more reasons for using sans-flip:

- More pocketable depth
- Using a screen protector saves the exposed screen, and allows finger use without fingerprints
- Nice, big screen visible for GPS & film use without cumbersome open flip getting in the way
- Looks less like a phone, to prevent arguments when using on a plane

Why not just use a PDA with phone functions? They're just too wide, and I'd feel like a ninkompoop talking on one!

So give it a try with the flip off. You might find you like it. If not, (and here's the clever bit) you can actually put the flip back on!

Just to put my pennyworth in - I find the big benefit of using with the flip is I can use my P900 as a phone one-handed. This is particularly when going through my address book. It is not nearly so easy to do this with the flip removed.

I've tried the flip on and off and it all comes down to one thing. One handed text messaging. If I need to respond to an SMS while driving there is no way I'm using a stylus or attempting to use the virtual flip. They should make the virtual flip bigger so it would actually be usable. However to do love the more pocketable feel with the flip off.

My point exactly... no one was complaining about the existing flip.

I used to use my P800 sans the flip... and I use my P910 with the flip. Just a preference. The beauty of it was that I had a choice to use it with or without the flip.

I use the flip of the P910 to send SMS without having to look at the phone, or SMS with just one hand...something I couldn't do quickly without the keypad.

The thumb board is useless... regardless of its location on the back of the flip... or on the phone. It's much faster to use the stylus... no matter how slow you write.

The thumb board was a stupid reflex response to the Treo. I see no use for it in any hand held device that needs to be pocket sized.

Texting while driving - not really advisable with any configuration!

If something was important enough that it couldn't wait for me to pull over, I think I'd just make a call - much safer (with a headset).
