I've been after BB technology on my P800/P900/P910i for a while. From what I can gather, Sony Ericsson signed an agreement with RIM (BB) quite a while back to license the technology. The problem was that in order for the service providers (UK - vodafone, O2, Tmobile, Orange etc.) to utilise the technology, they also had to sign an agreement with RIM. I'm with Vodafone, and heard that they have been working on this, and it should be available soon. Vodafone always seem to spend longer than other providers testing new services before making it publicly available.

As for the P910i, it doesnt appear to have any blackberry connectivity installed out of the box (though there could be some low-level enhancements that can't been seen until an app is installed). It looks like there will be an installable app - BB connect software? I too haven't found where to get hold of this - can anyone provide info on this?

There also appears to be a lawsuit going on in which RIM may be restricted in selling devices. Since they also seem to be up for sale, I expect this is leading to the increase in other phones supporting BB services. Hopefully all will become clearer over the next couple of months.

I know RIM posted a tremendous sales growth for the 2k3 period. With that said, there's already been information posted about SE releasing the P910x BB connectivity software within the next few weeks via an online update. As to how/when it will be activated that would be up to the carriers (ie T-Mo, O2, Voda, etc.) that will honor the service.

"T-Mobile Releases Blackberry Connect For Sony Ericsson P910i"

http://www.blackberrycool.com/2005/03/04/00242/

Software and install guide can be downloaded from http://www.t-mobile.at/busine[....]_arbeiten/officetogo/download/

(but this may not work unless your provider is T-Mobile)

According to Vodafone UK, they are still waiting for RIM to release the BB connect software.

@tankee

Don't think you can, as the APN is different.

ohh ...

I had been playing with the different settings on my handheld and my corp's server ... no luck.

My service provider said is possible but refers us to Sony Ericsson. SE can't help as their outsourced service centers know nothing about blackberry. in fact my P910i was the first to be installed by them and they failed to get it to work ...

Oh, hold on mate - you do know that this software is for T-Mobile only, and will not work if you have different operator?

If your operator knows nothing about it, then the chances are it is not available through them yet. AFAIK, it's only T-Mobile who have released the software.
